Grease is one of the best movies of the 1970s. It is a classic musical movie portrayed in a rather romantic and comedy manner. It was released in 1978 beautifully directed by Randal Kleiser starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in the lead.
Step Up, released in 2006, directed by well-known Anne Fletcher, stars Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan Tatum as the leads. Both movies have most certainly lived up to their respective reputations while Grease is still considered one of the finest movies after more than 30 years.
Both movies have quite a lot in common as both movies are focused and building up on a relationship between the characters. Not only is romance and love as a theme, common in movies but both movies also have other themes like heartbreak, hardships, relationship problems in common. The time period shown in Grease is of the 1950s while Step Up is, based on the early twenty first century. Both movies are set in USA but showing different eras. I was impressed by how wonderfully the plot of Grease was portrayed throughout the movie, as none of the scenes felt unnecessary long. Another point I liked about it was that the movie on the whole was quite balanced when it came to themes. It had everything, from romance to heartbreak to reunion. The story, the backbone of the movie was also brilliantly portrayed over the course of the movie. The style of the Grease represented the 1970 era which is why it did not manage to grab my interest initially. The style in which Step Up has been portrayed is much more modern.
