In spite of determination is the key to success, others would contradict and question why. In the story, “Against The Odds” Sully had determination, to save the people on the plane. Determination matters for everyone because it motivates others to reach their goal. For instance in, “The Grapes Of Wrath” the farmers had the determination to move through the disasters such as blackouts, thick air, and dust storms. The determination is essential for those who are successful like Sully, Bethany Hamilton, Billy Coleman, Albert Einstein, and J.K Rowling. To begin being successful is important for all people that want to aim to their goal. For instance, being determined drives others to have more motivation …show more content…
In the story of, Where The Red Fern Grows Billy Coleman carried determination with him by saving enough money for his hound dogs. Which he had done by selling crops from his farm towards people in town. He even traveled to Tahlequah where his dogs were. Especially the people in the video, "Famous Failures" had the determination to overcome their standards. Such as Albert Einstein, he was determined to show his music towards others. Even J.K Rowling wasn’t accepted by many publishers, but she was determined to find a publisher for her books. Many disagree that determination is key to accomplishment. Despite determination sustained Sully, Bethany Hamilton, Billy Coleman, Albert Einstein, J.K Rowling, and families from, “The Grapes Of Wrath”. In conclusion, determination showed others how to be prosperous in life. Each person from each article, video, and the book had the determination to succeed in their ambition. This is mainly about being determined in life, for people that whether or not have the belief in determination. We all can be successful in our goals by being determined. No matter the struggle they have to face and
If someone wants to succeed in life and stay recognized by superiors, then he or she ought to appear hardworking. A person begins with setting goals. There are two categories, the first, “be” goals and the second, “do” goals. In other words, ask yourself, "What to be?" or "What to achieve?" Four categories of goals consist of wealth, health, relationships, and self-fulfillment which equal success. Working diligently to finish a task demonstrates how to live a successful life. Given these points, Thomas Edison, Helen Keller and Harriet Tubman, all exceptional achievers, found that prosperity undoubtedly comes along for everyone who perseveres.
When times get tough, many people turn away from everyone and everything. It must be part of human nature to adopt an independent attitude when faced with troubles. It is understandable because most people do not want to trouble their loved ones when they are going through problems, so it is easier to turn away than stick together. Maybe their family is going through a rough patch and they reason they would be better off on their own. This path of independence and solitude may not always be the best option for them or their family, though. Often times it is more beneficial for everyone to work through the problem together. It is not always the easiest or most desirable option, but most times it is the most efficient and it will get results in the long run. In The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck makes this point very clear through several characters. Many characters throughout
"The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure" - Sven Goran Eriksson. Success is an achievement in life which most people would be appreciative towards, but failure is looked upon in a disgraceful manner. People in society tend to face many challenges that occur in their daily lives. Some of these challenges can affect their lives dramatically in a positive or negative way. If one decides not to surmount their challenges they will suffer within themselves for a long period of time. Having confidence within is considered the greatest way to overcome suffering in life. In the novel, The Shipping News, by Annie Proulx, Quoyle deals with many difficult challenges along his life journey by suffering from bad childhood experiences which led him to have a low self confidence, which later on affected him in adulthood as well. All of Quoyle?s life decisions at first were base on him listening to others and continuing life suffering through it day by day but afterwards in the novel near the end, he experiences happiness for the first time. If someone is unable to overcome their bad experiences and fears in the past then they cannot be successful in the future. Also, a person should be strong and have faith in themselves to overcome their fears to fain the joy and happiness in their life. The modern day hero is distinguished as a hero with both successes and failures. A hero?s successes are determined by the hero?s power within themselves to overcome fears and obstacles and failures are determined by the hero?s weak point or flaw which leads to their predicted downfall and portrays them as an atypical hero. A hero can be depicted as an atypical hero at first but can still gain the success and happiness they longed for in the end.
If everyone thinks that without struggle, it is easy to obtain their goals that is entirely false. Struggle comes from the progress of our success and achievement. It is an indication that we poured all of our time and patience into the things we pursue. Jeannette Walls, the author of The Glass Castle, explain her struggles. She survives by finding foods from the trash can and earns money by babysitting, exchanging scrap metal, finding jobs, and from her parents. As a graduating student from high school, receiving my diploma is an indication that I ...
Of all the diametrically opposed forces that hold sway on human consciousness, one dichotomy reigns supreme, altruism versus egoism. As such, this division is often explored in arts of all forms, literature in particular. In the context of American culture as a whole, perhaps no book better explores this dichotomy than John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath, in which an oklahoman family is forced to migrate to california in order to escape the dust bowl. Indeed, as most who have explored a concept fully, Steinbeck chooses to venerate one half of the dichotomy, that side being altruism, to the point of iconoclasm. Throughout the novel, one is continuously assured of Steinbeck’s communist world view.
The quality of unimaginable success is determined by grit. Despite confronting difficult life circumstances that delay the process individuals who are passionate, intelligent, and dedicated to one’s own success will continue maintaining consistency throughout their journey. Success is measured by an individuals’ commitment to effectively work hard towards life-changing goals. In the journal article “Grit: Perseverance and Passion for Long-term Goals,” Angela L. Duckworth conducts several studies in order to convey human’s capacity for higher achievements while still enduring challenges and failure. Although Duckworth’s research has proven that individuals who are less gritty tend to shift trajectory, I believe working hard and keeping “stamina” is essentially the key to achieving your goals (1088).
One aspect of determination is the bravery to keep going no matter what may happen, which Phoenix displays often throughout the story. When Phoenix was attacked by a large black dog on her way to town, the elderly woman was unfazed. While some people would have panicked, Phoenix simply laid ?there and presently went to talking. ?Old woman,? she said to herself, ?that black dog come up out of the weeds to stall you off, and now there he sitting on his fine tail, smiling at you??. Phoenix?s reaction to the dog was one of good humor, which shows that even though she was startled, she was not flustered in the face of danger.
Determination is shown in many different characters, but mainly in Peekay. For example, Peekay was determined to become an extravagant boxer just like Hoppie. He had to overcome many childhood fears that he had. He was determined to be a great boxer just like Hoppie. Determination brought Peekay to becoming the champion boxer of South Africa.
Humans can find it challenging to have self motivation, let alone determination. To thrive in a world such as Earth to live a life worth living, it takes just that, determination. In Jane Eyre, Charlotte Bronte demonstrates this with the evolution of Jane's life. The trails she goes through with her aunt, Mr. Rochester and then St John each time she overcomes it with courage. Using mainly symbolism and motifs, these devices beautifully portray strong will in this novel.
The indispensable requirement for hard work is self-discipline. Success is possible only when you can overcome the natural tendency to cut corners and take the easy way. Lasting success is possible only when you can discipline yourself to work hard for a long, long time. Napoleon Hill wrote that “Persistence is to the character of man, as carbon is to steel.” He also said that “Before success comes in any man’s life he is sure to meet with much temporary defeat and, perhaps, some failure. When defeat overtakes a man, the easiest and most logical thing to do is quit. That is exactly what the majority of men do.” It is your persistence that is your measure of belief in yourself and your capability to succeed. If you can persevere long enough and believe in yourself and your ability to work hard enough, ultimately, you will succeed in any endeavour you set your mind to.
For example, people who live on the streets experience multiple hardships and consequences. They go through various demanding and stressful times. Having perseverance helps them reach their goals and will influence their actions. Temple Grandin demonstrated perseverance because she never gave up in what she believed in. She proved to people that just because she has Autism doesn’t mean that she is any less than anyone. Melba Pattillo Beals exhibited perseverance when she and eight other students went to an all white school. They showed perseverance and determination when any of the students would threatened or abuse them. Maurice exhibited perseverance when he grew up in a dangerous neighborhood. He met Laura and persevered to live a life that was better than living on the streets for the rest of his life. Perseverance influenced nonfiction literature by showing that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and to influence the readers to persevere and to never give
A determination is a driving force that helps people through rough times in their lives. Without determination, people would no longer strive for their goals. Throughout the short story, ‘Then Later, His Ghost,’ Sarah Hall shows how strength and determination can get you through these tough times. This theme is made clear through the severe setting the characters are faced with and her use of symbolism.

Living in any generation, people cannot avoid the inevitable problems and failures that come with it. However, to overcome failure is a possibility that can become one’s reality, which the effects come from persevering. Having the mindset to achieve a goal through the hardships is how several famous inventors have created their inventions. Due to the problems, “‘many of life’s failures are people who [have] not [realized] how close they [are] to success when they [have given] up’” (“The Importance of Perseverance”), stated by inventor Thomas Edison. Being able to persevere in any situations aids inventors to overpower the problems that remain. Just having an ambition motivates people to succeed in what they strive for, but to give up is a failure on its own. Although failure is inevitable, the cause of failure results in new possibilities that can contribute significant changes to remodel the world. To accept failure is when a person can truly succeed. In addition, the purpose of a goal stimulates the will to persevere through any difficult times. When people find that resolution in their heart, they can accomplish what they want to achieve. Having a strong resolve helps a person confront any obstacles in their path by overcoming any boundaries. With the goal in their hearts, people “[do not] look at the difficulty of the goal, [they] look at the success [they can] feel upon completing the goal” (“The Importance of Perseverance”). Whether the aim of several inventors is to generate electricity, transportation, or speed up production, perseverance has existed in the creation of several inventions. Having accepted failure along with adopting a powerful resolve, the impossible can become possible and new possibilities may
In order to be successful one must be able to motivate and challenge themselves to overcome obstacles. Lacking determination could lead someone to miss out on their opportunity to strive because their obstacles intimidate them into quitting. Having a strong mindset allows for someone to make decisions confidently, preventing their self- deprecating thoughts to build a barrier to their success. Success is about having a strong work ethic as opposed to cheating and stealing for self establishment. My ideology on what makes someone successful comes from my own personal interest as opposed to social conditioning because socially people are only interested in the amount of money made not on how fairly or honestly the money was made.
