Grandma Ling Poem Analysis

How are old people treated these days? How are they supposed to be treated? The two authors of the two poems, “”Grandma Ling” and “Legacy II”, both have love and respect for their grandparents. Amy Ling, the author of “Grandma Ling”, was born in China, but was raised in America. When she was in her mid-twenties, she went to meet her grandmother for the first time. When she met her grandmother, she immediately know who she was. Though they did not speak the same language, Amy showed love by hugging her. Leroy V. Quintana, the author of the poem, “Legacy II”, was raised by his grandparents when he was young. His grandfather did not speak too much English and had not gone to school. Leroy did not know at first, but when he grew up, he knew that he was “nothing but a poor fool who went to college”, and figured out that his grandfather was wise. In this poem, Amy’s grandmother is a happy chinese women who loves her granddaughter. Also, Amy’s goal in this poem was to see her grandmother for the first time. In the other hand, in the poem, “Legacy II”, the main point is that wisdom is more important than education. The wisdom in the poem comes from Leroy’s grandfather, who is a wise, but quiet man. Leroy later notices and wants to go back to when his grandfather was alive to learn the wisdom which is more important than collegiate education. Though there are some differences between these two poems, their underlying lesson when the poem is very similar. In the poem “Grandma Ling”, the author states, “I could not understand, but I could hug her.” Also in the poem, “Legacy II” the author states, “trying to find my way back to the center of the world where Grandfather stood that day.” The two poems both show the importance of families and the unbreakable bonding between
