Graduation Speech: Cabrillo High School

Hi, good afternoon, it's nice to see all of you here at the Cabrillo class of 2017 graduation, I want to thank you all for coming. My name is Danny DeFilippis and I am co-president of the fall leadership class. After this day we'll all be freshman at our respective high schools. Freshman by definition means beginner, in actuality we are not beginners. It's really only just another grade up so we shouldn't be worried about the term freshman. Be excited for new classes, be excited for new teachers, be excited for new friendships, and be excited for new opportunities to succeed, I know I am. Uribe’s class, Yosemite of course, the study trip to Marin, and the band performances. One of my favorite memories at cabrillo was during the Yosemite trip when my hiking group had a snowball fight for at least an hour. Afterwards in our cabin I lived next to the heater for a while. My hair had froze and it wasn't pretty. We also had a second snowball fight with Joe, Matt, Bryan, Olivia, Claire, and Natalie. At first they thought they had beaten us, they were wrong….Joe and I had made a pile of snowballs and were throwing them at Natalie and Olivia. I don't think that snowball fight ever really ended. When we were skiing I came down the hill really fast and my legs crossed and I lost balance I didn't know how to slow down so I crashed into a little hill and got stuck because it's really hard to stand up with skis on. So I lied there stuck and helpless with snow in my eyes (which stings really bad believe it or not) and my hands were blue once I was finally helped out. During that trip I noticed how everyone really bonded and became sort of a family, we had helped each other out during the hike, people who usually don't talk much in the classroom were talking to each other on a regular base in the camp and we were telling each other about what we did that day. I've had the best two years of my life here at school whether it was doing projects together or hanging out and just talking. Thank You for helping me get familiar with the campus and life at Cabrillo, and for helping me out with math homework which I struggled with a little but managed to get by. I’ve learned a lot from everyone here. You guys have made me a better friend, but more importantly a better person. Thank
