As a student, I have always been inspired by the professors who are very enthusiastic about the subject, encourage students’ curiosity and guide them to think critically. I believe the essence good teaching lies on the deep understanding of the subject and the ability to explain the concepts to a diverse group of students with different aptitude levels and academic backgrounds. To pique student’s interest in science the teacher not only requires to provide a steady flow of up-to-date knowledge for their conceptual growth, it also demands introducing the pre-identified scientific challenges, developing technological skills to tackle practical problems and fostering their creativity. My primary duties as a laboratory instructor involve teaching mineral and rock identification using both hand specimens and petrographic microscopes, introducing laboratory techniques (e.g. spectroscopy, titration, ion chromatography), sampling techniques and in situ analyses of fluid chemistry in the field. Besides, I also taught a few lab courses that involve familiarities with basic hydrological concepts and numerical expressions required to understand the surface and ground water systems and fluid-rock interactions via simple box models. My approach of teaching will not only include the lectures and assignments, I will incorporate field trips and laboratory experiments to enhance their understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of the subject. I believe such comprehensive study helps students to realize the application of the knowledge in understanding the impact of geology on our environment and socio-economic structure by developing awareness about the critical environmental issues encountered in our daily lives and how those problems can be related globally. Furthermore, I intend to expand my teaching proficiency by instructing the advanced level graduate courses in the following (but not limited)
