Good Will Hunting is a 1997 American drama film directed by Gus Van Sant. The actors starring in the film are Matt Damon, Robin Williams, Ben Affleck, Minnie Driver, and Stellan Skarsgard. Will Hunting (Matt Damon) seems like a normal twenty year old Boston blue-collar worker who works as a janitor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which happens to be one of the most prestigious schools in the world. Like many kids his age he likes to spend his free time hanging out with his best friends, Chuckie (Ben Affleck), Billy (Cole Hauser) and Morgan (Casey Affleck). During another session, we find out that Will was bounced around different foster homes growing up and he was physically abused. This is why Will will not let anybody close to him; he is scared that if he puts his guard down they will hurt him also. Will also challenges Sean to look at his own life, since Sean has not moved on from his wife's death. Skylar ask Will to move to California with her, which causes Will to panic and get defensive. She tells him that she loves him and wants him to come with her, so Will declines and tells her that he does not love her. He does love her but he is scared that once she gets to know him better she will not love him for who he is, so he pushes her away. Will’s emotional pain becomes anger that causes Will to lash out at Professor Lambeau. He tells him his mathematical research is a joke and it is too easy for him. One day on a construction job sight Chuckie tells Will that if he squanders his potential and does not do something with his life he’s going to kill him. After seeing this moving multiple times I could not imagine anyone else playing Will or Sean. Robyn William performance as Sean was superb. He did such a great job of making you feel his pain, sorrow, and compassion throughout the movie. Williams was nominated for multiple awards and won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. Another large strength of the movie was the screenplay. I felt like they did a wonderful job of letting you see the different aspects of Will’s genius and his personal struggles. I also think they also did a great job of making the movie believable, which makes the movie more enjoyable. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wrote the screenplay and won multiple awards for their effort. I do not feel like there are many weaknesses to the movie except one. I feel like they could have placed a little more emphases on the love between Will and Skylar. It kind of feels like they just brushed over it during the movie and you could not see the love building between them. When Skylar tells Will she loves him, I find it hard to get that sense of feeling from the
