Golf Essay

I have played several different sports throughout my life and have learned different ways to excel in each of them. Golf is a sport that I have never really taken the time to understand or appreciate. My sister and my dad always go after school to practice golf and they have invited me to come in the past. I would always say no and question why they would go practice so much because I didn’t think golf was a very technical sport. I thought that a good golfer simply had to be very lucky and hit the ball in the right direction and maybe it would go in the hole. Being a member of a golf club, I realized that I was being illogical and stubborn about the sport of golf. I acknowledged that just like any sport, golf has to be technical and is a sport that requires a lot of skill.
Golf is a sport which competing players use many types of clubs to hit balls into a series of holes on a course using the fewest number of strokes. In the sport, it is ideal to make a hole in one, or have your golf ball land in the desired hole with only one attempt. The ball must be hit with exactly the right force and angle in order to land in the desired location. By understanding the projectile motion of the ball, golfers are more likely to improve their scores because they can better understand the errors that they are making.
By definition, a projectile has a single force that acts upon it - the force of gravity.
The motion of an object under the influence of gravity is determined completely by the acceleration of gravity, its launch speed, and launch angle. Projectile motion is a branch of classical mechanics in which the motion of an object, in this case the golf ball, is analyzed under the influence of the constant acceleration of gravity, ...

...ready hit the ground. This mathematically proves that I would just barely undershoot the hole. In order for my ball to go in the hole, it just needs to be hit forward 1.7 meters. Since I am so close, I can use my putter and lightly hit the ball to knock it into the hole. No matter what distance the hole is from me, I can mathematically calculate where my ball will land assuming my constant velocity is 80 m/s. I can also strategically use my golf clubs according to the distance I have to hit the ball, and I can calculate where the ball will land using the horizontal and vertical distance formulas. Using these mathematics and understanding the projectile motion of the golf ball allows me to have a better understanding of the sport of golf and strategically plan my playing so I can impress my sister and father the next time I’m invited to play golf.
