The hair coloring process can be done professionally by a hairdresser or can be independently and individually at home by purchasing and applying hair color products.
In the Hair Dyes market, Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) is the category leader with a market share of 33%. For GCPL, the hair color segment accounts for 23% of the net sales of the company. While Godrej Consumer's hair colors across formats and brands makes it a market leader in the market with a 33 per cent share, premium players such as Garnier and L’Oréal have a combined share of 21 per cent followed by the emulsion-based hair dye brand, Vasmol, at 20 per cent.
The Hair Cream market, however, grew from Rs 253 crore to Rs 308 crore registering a 22 per cent value growth during the same period, according to The Nielsen Company. Currently, the top end of the hair color market in the cream segment is dominated by L’Oréal (60 per cent) followed by Streax (9 per cent) and Godrej Renew (5 per cent). The color cream category is skewed towards the urban metros while the powders are being used mostly by Tier 2 and Tier 3
