What are GMOs? A GMO are modified plants, animals, or bacterias that are created by injecting genetic materials. GMOs are cheaper, more nutritious, safer, and have more produce than organic foods. GMOs are very beneficial for the world. GMOs are an effective way to deal with the increasing population. The “world food production will need to increase by 60 percent… by 2050.” (Text 3, Line 34) This shows the need for an increase in food production for the future. There are several reasons GMOs can solve this problem. One way GMOs can help the increasing population is because it can produce more foods. “GMOs [It] have [has] raised the output of corn, cotton and soy by 20 to 30 percent.” (Text 4, Line 6-7) This further proves that because of the more produce of food, the less hunger in the increasing population. Furthermore, GMOs help the increasing population because they are cheaper to produce. “The use of GM crops ‘has lowered the price of food.’” (Text 4, Line 5) Thus, it can be concluded that the cheaper the food is to produce, the more there is to feed people. Furthermore, these rice have “increased amounts of the cancer-fighting antioxidant lycopene.” (Text 1, Line 64) This shows that GMOs can not only be more nutritious, but medicinal as well. Another example of these GMOs are the corn plant genetically engineered “to produce up to four times the normal amount of vitamin C.” (Text 1, Lines 59-60) This proves that GMOs can be modified to enhance their already existing
