The Globe theatre was located in London, and was constructed in 1599. The Globe was also owned by six shareholders including Shakespeare. William Shakespeare’s primary home was the Globe theatre since it was where his acting company began, and where he was able to perform. He decided to invest a lot in the Globe theatre because “this investment gave Shakespeare and the other leading actors both a share in the company’s profits and a share in their playhouse” (Gurr 1). Overtime the Globe theatre ended up becoming the second best playhouse, due to its success it made for the first decade. Which meant that the theatre had an extremely high risk to catch on fire. With this being said, the Globe theatre where most of Shakespeare's plays were performed came to an end. Due to the use of cannons in their plays. The cannons were crucial for their performances because they were used it to create a dramatic effect such as announcing great entrances. Unluckily for the Globe the cannon they used in the production led to a major disaster. It is stated that, “the Globe theatre fire accident occurred on June 29 of 1613.The cannon was fired during a performance of a play about King Henry VIII. Sparks from the cannon fire landed on the thatched roof starting a massive fire” (Globe Theatre Fire 1). This incident left all the people insanely devastated. However, over the years, “the project to rebuild Shakespeare’s Globe was initiated by the American actor, director and producer Sam Wanamaker after his first visit to London in 1949” (Shakespeare's Globe 1). Although the new theatre is not a perfect replica it is built with better quality materials unlike the timbers they used back then.
