Even though kids have many reasons for not getting great grades. I find the most common is they don’t have the confidence. They keep telling themselves “I won’t get a good grade anyway, why should I even try.”This is the story of how I realized that I can have the confidence to achieve my academic goals. Between the grades of first and sixth I had okay grades I wasn’t failing but I wasn’t getting straight A’s either. I still always did my homework but never put in the extra mile. Students come across many complications during their school career. Some students are actually smart but just don’t apply themselves, or even have hardships that are going on in their lives. These can be fixed if you can find motivation and confidence. In the story “Zero,” Paul Logan coasts through high school and college. Logan doesn’t know the tools to succeed in school, which causes his grades to fall. In the story “The Jacket,” Gary Soto explains how the way you dress influences how you feel about yourself. Which in this case him getting an ugly jacket; which causes him to be depressed and his grades to fall. Albeit Logan and Soto went through similar hardships, they both succeed with motivation and confidence.

Success in a school subject can be measured in two ways. One way being based on grades-a higher grade equals higher success in that subject. The other way being based on understanding-if the material is understood the student is successful. The two are usually related in that a student receives a high grade because they understood the material, but this does not necessarily have to be true. A student can learn the material well enough to pass a test with an A and she is considered to have excelled when she may not even fully understand the material. Additionally, there is always a way to cheat- an option that has never been chosen by myself. I have earned A's all of my classes since the beginning of my freshmen year in high school. I am told by all of my teachers that I excel. But I only believe that some of them are right.
As children grow, they start to change and become different people. In seventh grade I was an irresponsible student and I didn’t study at all; I had to study a lot to survive seventh and eighth grade, and I had to become a model student for my younger sibling and cousins. At the beginning of my seventh grade school year, I had a problem controlling my temper and I really didn’t care about my grades; all I did was play video games or watch television. Fortunately, I have changed to a better and brighter student whom people can look up to.
School was a challenge for me when I was younger, and I was that student who was always at the back of the pack. When I wasn’t in the classroom, I was either in a Special Ed class or practicing word and letter sounds with a speech teacher. Someone had to read my test out loud and I had additional time to complete them. I was two reading levels behind everyone in my year. And then fifth grade happened. I had these impressive co-teachers who were very involved with my studies, and I was able to show my strengths in math. Never before did I consider I was advanced in any subject, but there I was. English was still a mighty foe that held a resent against me; probably for the countless times I butchered the language.
This placed much of the burden of recognizing academic talent on the high schools. Hindering a student’s performance with a bad grade in the middle of the year can make them give up for the rest of the year. Once a student has received a bad grade, they might lose faith in their academic ability. By giving up, a student does not reflect their academic ability and their bad grades are not based on what they learned.
Education is essential in a flourishing society and it is needed in order for society to advance. We start learning when we are first born and we never stop learning until we die. Formal schooling takes up the early stages of our lives; people start from five years old to twenty-two years old or even longer. The results of learning is shown through the concept of grades. A grade is a measurement of learning and it is used by colleges and employers to find how skilled you are in certain subjects or overall. While many may think a grade is a deserving measurement of achievement, there are many reasons why grades are not an adequate benchmark. Teachers and educators have been discussing how to help students enjoy learning.
My grades in elementary school were poor because I had trouble paying attention to things that were not challenging. I tried to play sick just about every day but my parent were not falling for it. My favorite classes were gym, music, and art. Competing in sports is where I spent most of my time. The words of my parents and teachers went in one ear and out the other. “School just wasn’t interesting to me”
As a teenager I was an avid reader and excelled academically until I was in the ninth grade when I conceded to peer pressure and took a turn for the worse. As a Elementary kid, there 's no worrying about grades. When you go into high school. It is a different experience. You got more freedom but less lollygagging. My first year of high school I realized there 's no messing around. Do your best in high school and you will succeed. In the next few paragraphs, I will give you reasons to pass.
I was sometimes slower at completing a written paper or an assignment. In open discussions about material we had just read, things weren’t sticking with me after reading to feel confident to raise my hand and be active with discussions. I would have to search for answers in my memory for some time. Sometimes answers just weren’t retrieved at all. I became frustrated in school often, and eventually developed a negative attitude toward school. I struggled a lot with this because I knew I could do better. Every day I prepared myself for failure because I lacked the tools and strategies that I needed to succeed in school. Granted, I got by, but I could have been a much better student. I earned low B’s and C’s, but should have been A’s.
To become a success in life, we all need to learn to become a good student in every aspect of life. Becoming a good student takes much work and self-discipline. There are many ways that a student can stand out from the rest of the class. These good students are distinguished by their attitude, intellectual skills, consciousness, and achievement.
There are many things that can help to get good grades in college possible, doing them is the challenging part. In order to be successful in life, college students should get the best grades by staying organized, taking good notes, and maintain an effective study habit.
