Did you know that the Georgia Colony was established 50 years after the other 12 colonies? Was it always this great? Yes, yes it was . Georgia was a success, it had everything it need to be to be a great colony. It had charity, defense, and money (economics) Georgia Has a very good economy.It had the perfect climate and has plenty of running water,constant breezes,and great soil. James oglethorpe build a buffer on St.Simon island on 1736. James oglethorpe thought it would ideal to defend all of the British colonies from Spain.He established the buffer on top of a high bluff where it was overlooking everything. As said in document C the causes of the war were about land claims they both wanted more land, but they were also because the english kept raiding the spanish ships. This came to be known as the “War of Jenkins’ Ear.” They cut off Captain Robert jenkin’s ear as punishment for raiding the ships. The english people were outraged with what had happened. On january 1740 oglethorpe seized two spanish forts and started a strike against St. Augustine.That strike failed, and in 1742 the spanish surprised them with an attack. Oglethorpe and all his men were able to defeat the spanish and and sign the Aix-la-chapelle in 1748. The crops started many years ago, with the switch grass, which is now made for bundling and farm feed, with out the switch grass we may not have the dairy and poultry we have today. Making sure our animals are fed well, is and important thing for the people and the communities. Cotton is another big thing Mississippi has started. Without cotton we would not have the comfortable cloths we wear today, and the towels we dry off with and the pillows and the blankets we sleep with at night, cotton is also used for many medical reason such as gauze for after surgery, and to keep the medicines fresh such as ibuprofen. I am proud to say that cotton is playing an even greater role in our every day lives.
Within the economy a great development had been achieved when the upper south handed its power to the lower south all due to the rise of an agricultural production. This expansion was led by the excessive growth of cotton in the southern areas. It spread rapidly throughout America and especially in the South. During these times it gave another reason to keep the slavery at its all time high. Many wealthy planters started a ‘business’ by having their slaves work the cotton plantations, which this was one of a few ways slavery was still in full effect. Not only were there wealthy planters, at this time even if you were a small slave-holder you were still making money. While all of this had been put into the works, Americans had approximately 410,000 slaves move from the upper south to the ‘cotton states’. Industrialization was a big part of the economy in the North. Workers made most goods one item at a time. During the first phase of industrialization employes divided jobs so that each person would specialize in a certain job. In the second phase entrepreneurs built factories to bring specialized workers to work together to make goods all under one roof. During the third and final phase workers used machines to complete tasks. Goods were finished much faster by machine than by hand. They were able to mass produce. Factories made at least two thirds of the country's manufactured goods. Things developed slower in the South. Agriculture, especially the production of cotton, produced great profits. Building new industry meant planters would have to begin selling their slaves. So instead they chose to invest in agriculture and enslaved Africans. The market for manufactured goods was extremely small. Some southerners did not want industry.
This marked the only chance Georgia had at becoming a free state, away from the tight grasps of the British, because they had the help of the French’s navy, superior weapons, and higher manpower. The Siege of Savannah was fought by the British on one side and the French troops and American Patriots on the other side. It was a Franco-American effort against the British, and the French played a major role in the war with General d’Estaing as one of their major generals, but his and the Patriots’ preparations and what went wrong in the battle made it a loss, which led to a chain of events that affected the entire war.
Virginia’s selfish ways did not lead them to accomplishment. The colonists of Chesapeake completely ignored the ways of establishing a community simply because of their hunger for land and greed for profit; Prosperity was not visible down their road. Massachusetts Bay’s unity enabled a strong, sturdy, and successful colony.
With the economic system, the south had a very hard time producing their main source “cotton and tobacco”. “Cotton became commercially significant in the 1790’s after the invention of a new cotton gin by Eli Whitney. (PG 314)” Let alone, if they had a hard time producing goods, the gains would be extremely unprofitable. While in the North, “In 1837, John Deere patented a strong, smooth steel plow that sliced through prairie soil so cleanly that farmers called it the “singing plow.” (PG 281).” Deere’s company became the leading source to saving time and energy for farming as it breaks much more ground to plant more crops. As well as mechanical reapers, which then could harvest twelve acres a day can double the corn and wheat. The North was becoming more advanced by the second. Many moved in the cities where they would work in factories, which contributed to the nation’s economic growth because factory workers actually produced twice as much of labor as agricultural workers. Steam engines would be a source of energy and while coal was cutting prices in half actually created more factories, railroads for transportation, and ships which also gave a rise in agricultural productivity.
The Enlightenment was a time of social growth that was driven by four philosophers; Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, Charles Montesquieu, and Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Each of the four philosophers had different views on how to, the government should be ran and organized. The way today’s government is based upon some of the things that the each of them believed and stated. An example of an enlightenment would be the European movement of the 17th and 18th century that was influenced by Hobbes, Locke, Montesquieu, Rousseau.

In Pennsylvania, progress was made toward social reform. No provisions had been made in order to receive military defense. This colony promoted peace. Also, no restrictions were placed on immigration, and naturalization was made easy, making it easier for new immigrants to move there. Many people in the colony disliked the idea of black slavery. Therefore, all of the social characteristics made it easier for the citizens to grasp the concept that there was no need for contradictions in social status.
The Southern colonies became in existence after the settlement of Jamestown. The states that made up of the Southern colonies include Maryland, Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia. These settlers came to America to seek economic growth that they couldn’t find while in England.
