George Washington, One of the Greatest Leaders of All Time

Born February 22, 1732 to a large family George was one of ten siblings’, son of a planter. George acquired a rather meager education from a private school. In 1751 George became a major in the Virginia military. A few years later Washington was made a lieutenant colonel and found himself in the middle of the French and Indian War. In 1759 Washington wed Martha, who had children by a previous marriage, George never had any of his own biological children. In 1775 George was chosen as commander in chief of the Continental army. Many highlights of his military career proceeded his reputation. The siege of Boston in 1775-1776, the defeat of the redcoats at Trenton, the masterful command, he portrayed in the victory at Monmouth, New Jersey, in 1778. “Washington was a hero of the Revolution, canonized by all and earned mass respect from his countrymen” (Cooke, 2002). In 1789 George Washington would become the first president of the United States, where he spent two terms in office. George is single handily responsible for shaping and structuring the government we now have today.
George was always known as the “boy and the cherry tree, telling his father, I cannot tell a lie” (Patten, 2009). George expressed affability, a man of perseverance and of faith, he always came across to the public as someone very trustworthy, truthful and could always be counted on two of George’s most dominant attributes were his integrity and his vision for the future George was truly a man of leadership and the father of our country.
Civility was a huge aspect of George’s life at age 15 he wrote the “Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation” (Patten, 2009). These rules cle...

.... According to the Principles of management textbook to be a leader one must “motivate and encourage others in order to accomplish goals” (Williams, 2015). There are many different leadership styles in the workforce and within the government sector today. The supportive leadership style which involves a more personable attitude to workers. Participative leadership which involves asking others for their input and Achievement oriented leadership where the leader sets goals to be achieved and challenges the workers to meet the goals. George embodied a little bit of all of these styles, he made every man want to strive to be the best. He instilled a sense in every man he came in contact with to be patriotic and to always strive to be a civilized man. George felt all men should build a foundation of character and faith. Because of this man we have a free America.
