The socialization of a person begins long before their birth, depending on the parents and the environment that they live in. Gender roles are forced on a child from the time that the parents discover the gender. Events such as revealing showers, baby showers, and decorating the nursey in a certain theme starts to affect the child and place them in a gender role. This from of socialization has been fairly common, up until the idea of the LGBT community became a norm. Once the LGBT community became a norm, the idea such a placing gender roles on a child before birth has become criticized. Girls deciding to act like guys and guys deciding to act like girls. This is becoming a social norm for society in this day and age. The LGBT community, standing for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, is becoming larger in society. This community disagrees with the presence of gender roles. Parents in this community are going against the norm of society hence they disagree with the norm of the gender roles. They believe that the children should have the choice to choose which roles they would like to take part in in life. It is acceptable for males to wear dresses and make up and for females to have short hair and not take care of themselves. The LGBT community’s opinion on gender roles is that they should not exist and that they shouldn’t effect anyone at all. Gender roles are a definite concept in all societies. They keep males and females following a structure that that society around them builds for them. Although gender roles do exist the LGBT community is fighting against the idea of them. The concept effects children before their birth and even more once they are born. Gender roles have always been a norm for societies even though the roles might vary depending on location. But the bottom line is that the concept of genders will continue to be a part of socialization and effecting girls, boys, and the LGBT
