There are three main types of cars: steam, electric, and gas. Steam cars were the first type of car to be discovered in 1672 in China (Guarnieri 4). A steam engine uses high pressure and a piston rod to create the power. A steam engine uses high pressure and a piston rod to create the power. The first gasoline cars were invented and patented in 1885 in Germany. It was called a gasoline car because it uses an engine that runs on gasoline. A gasoline engine operates similarly to a steam engine. The cons of the first developed gasoline cars is that the gasoline engines were extremely loud and had a strong odor of gasoline while driving the car. Consumers did not enjoy the smell and the loud noises as they were driving. After gasoline cars, an …show more content…

The battery sends its energy to the electric motor, which then begins to turn. Finally, the power created from the motor is then transferred to the wheels. The batteries that the electric car uses would not last a long time and take a long period of time to recharge, this was the main problem. This was not suitable for consumers that drive often and travel far distances when traveling. While the batteries in electric cars do not last long, electric cars are better than gasoline cars, they do not need gasoline to operate and do not pollute the earths air, which saves money and time that would normally be spent in refueling. Thus, the car can be charged while not in use. While some researchers claim that gasoline cars are more beneficial than electric cars, my research suggests that electric car pros outweigh the cons. Ultimately, then my goal is to demonstrate that electric cars will eliminate the use of gasoline cars in the near future. I will first explain how electric cars can save you …show more content…

Batteries are the main source of energy for electric cars, it is what powers the electric motor in the car. The type of battery in the car can be determined by the company that made the car or which model the car is. The most common type of battery used is a lithium battery (Srinivasan 1). These lithium batteries are not performing well in cars because of the short battery life and the time it takes to recharge the battery. Srinivasan notes that “Li-ion is expected in HEVs in the very near future, use in PHEVs are expected to be more gradual and dependent on solving the life, safety, and cost challenges” (Srinivasan 2). HEVs stands for hybrid-electric vehicles and PHEVs stands for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. In other words Li-ion batteries will be the next type of battery that will be used in electric cars. The use of Li-ion batteries means better performance in the electric vehicle. These batteries are also safer than lithium batteries. Test are being performed with Li-ion batteries. Comparison between Li-ion and lithium batteries, which shows the differences and similarities (Srinivasan
