The American chef and television show host, Paula Deen jeopardized her career after various court documents were made public. The documents exposed her as she admitted to saying the N-word. As she was placed in a racism scandal, several attempts were made at apologizing. None of them were deemed effective as The Food Network ended her shows and she lost all of her endorsement deals. Similar to how Paula Deen made bad decisions that provoked later complications, characters in Romeo & Juliet made bad decisions that led to later tragedies. Friar Lawrence agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, which contradicts his initial decision of rejecting Romeo’s request. With Friar Lawrence’s cooperation, the young couple is married without the parents’ knowledge The decision of marrying each other was solely based on haste, so if Friar Lawrence refused to marry the couple then it would’ve stalled the marriage, giving Romeo and Juliet more time to contemplate the situation. When Juliet flees from her home after the Capulets arrange her to marry County Paris in two days, the Friar Lawrence provides Juliet with a potion that sends her to sleep, a plan on how to convince her parents that she is dead, and a lie to tell her parents. Upon the failure of this plan when the message did not deliver to Romeo, he should’ve informed a Capulet of the situation. This negligence led to the Capulets being devastated which led to Romeo being given misleading information which led to his death. In the Capulet crypt where Romeo died and Juliet’s ‘dead’ body was being stored, Friar Lawrence flees upon Prince Escalus’ arrival. As Juliet hesitates to leave, the Friar abandons her in the crypt. When the Friar exits the crypt, Juliet kills herself next to Romeo. If Friar Lawrence was to stay in the crypt, he could’ve prevented her suicide. After Juliet had known Romeo for a day, the Nurse aids Juliet with wedding plans as she delivers the offer to Romeo and tells Juliet the plan. Despite the Montagues harassing and belittling her, the Nurse enables the marriage that was solely based on haste. If the Nurses reasoned and discussed with Juliet, she could’ve prevented the complications that later occurred especially when her parents enforced Juliet to marry County Paris. After Romeo kills Tybalt and flees to Friar Lawrence’s cell, the Nurse informs Romeo that Juliet forgives him. The Nurse then continues with the plan and retrieves the sex ladder. She does this to enable Romeo to be in a place he shouldn’t be as he is banished. The Nurse supports her decisions as she states “Hie you to church, I must another way, to fetch a ladder, by the which your love. Must climb a bird’s nest soon when it is dark. I am the drudge and toil in your delight” (Shakespeare 2,5).
