Freddie Steinmark was one of the toughest football players to ever play the sport. He was one of the smartest kids in his high school class. Freddie’s dad pushed him to be the best he can be. He had struggled with a mysterious pain in his left leg. Many people have battled the same disease as Freddie but not a single soul could deal with it the same way as Freddie. Freddie Steinmark was an average kid out of Boulder, Colorado who would become more than your average kid. Freddie Joe Steinmark was born on January 27th, 1949 in Denver, Colorado (Branda). Freddie was the son of Fred Gene and Gloria (marchetti) Steinmark. His father was a professional baseball player (Branda). Freddies early life was just as normal as everyone else. Freddie was a really smart kid he almost took high school as another sport pushing himself to work hard and fighting his hardest to get valedictorian. In high school Freddie was inducted into the Colorado hall of fame which is given to the state's most outstanding high school athlete. “He also received a scholarship for football at the university of texas”. Texas was the only the only College to offer him a scholarship (Branda). Freddie was extremely undersized going into college which left his coaches questioning how good he would be. Despite being undersized freddie started his freshman year at safety on his freshman team. He would start at the same position during his sophomore. He was the leading tackler for his team during this year and he was named the All-Southwest conference Athlete-Scholar (Branda). During his junior year he played in what was called the “game of the century” or the big shootout where number 1 Texas Longhorns vs. Arkansas Razorbacks (Branda).
