The novel Freak the Mighty, written by Rodman Philbrick, is a wonderful book told from the perspective of Max (one of the two main characters), is a story of unforgettable friendship. Max and Kevin (the other main character) meet for the first time in preschool. Years later, Kevin moves in to Max’s neighborhood. This is when the friendship of hope, confidence, and strength build up in both Max and Freak, and together they accomplish what no one can.

He takes Max and forces him to come with him. They walk to Iggy’s and Loretta’s house. After some time they end up at a dark old building where they tie Max up. This is where the trouble started. After being there for awhile, Loretta tries to save Max. Killer Kane (Max’s dad) tries to choke her to death, but Max reminded him that he remember the time that his father killed his mother. Soon after Killer Kane lets go of Loretta and started to choke Max. Kevin finds them, with a squirt gun in his hand. He says that in the squirt gun is acid and that he will shoot it if Killer Kane doesn’t let go of Max. The request was not followed so the “asid” was shot. Killer Kane screamed in pain and let go of max. The cops arrived and Killer Kane was taken to jail.
The book ends tragically with Kevin’s birthday. Kevin went straight to the hospital after a medical emergency. After a few days at the hostpidal Kevin was supposedly going into the surgery for his mechanical body. Max finds out the next day that there was no surgery. Kevin passed and the mechanical body was only a fib to hide his soon to be death. Max goes out of control. He breaks glass windows and doors, trying to find Kevin. He did not believe it. In the short story “IND AFF” by Fay Weldon the narrator must make a choice on whether or not to continue her love affair while examining the Princip’s murder of the Archduke Ferdinand and his wife. The story is set in Sarajevo in Bosnia, Yugoslavia where the assassination took place. Through irony, symbolism and setting, Weldon uses the parallel between the narrator and Pincip to show that seemingly inconsequential actions of an individual can have great consequences.
The story of “Unwind” revolves around three main characters that are all scheduled to be sent to a harvest camp and unwound. Connor is a sixteen year whose family believes that he has caused too much trouble in society. Risa is a ward of the state, and due to budget cuts, is too expensive to be kept in the program. Lev is tithe, and individual that has been born with the purpose of being unwound. Connor one day discovers an unwind order in the house and decides to run away. With the help of an honest truck driver, Connor manages to slip away. However, Connor keeps his cell phone and the tracker inside gets him caught. The police attempt to arrest Connor but he resists arrest, runs through the traffic on the road, and grabs a tithed to use as a human shield. This event in turn causes a bus full of state home wards to spin out of control and overturn. Risa is one of the individual on that buss. Risa, Connor, and Lev all run into the woods. The next morning, while the three are gathering supplies such as food and clothes, they come across a storked baby on the door step. Due to past experiences, Connor decides to put all three of them in risk and decides to pick up the baby while a police car slowly passes nearby. Risa, Connor, Lev and the baby all get onto the school bus in hopes of not being suspected by the police car. Once they arrive at the school, they find the nearest bathroom and hide in it with the baby. Lev sees this as an opportunity to escape. As a tithe, he believes that it is an honor to live with the purpose of being unwound, so he finds his way to the school office and turns himself and Connor and Risa in. An example of their adventures is when Kevin mouths at Tony D. and his gang, defending Max and himself; after of which he discovers that Max could not have fought Tony and incredulously questions, “You mean you couldn’t take him and I was giving him lip?” (31). Kevin’s words reveal his trust in Max. He incited Tony, believing Max would be able to protect the both of them. The boys’ next conflict, an encounter with Iggy, the head of a troublemaking motorcycle gang, and Loretta, his wife, show Max’s concern for Kevin and his wanting to keep Kevin safe: “I feel real bad for Freak because he hated it when people try to rub his head for luck, but I don’t say a word, I just run us home, thumping the short way back around the pond, and my big feet never trip me up because I’m on automatic, I’m this running machine” (72). Max is very attuned and sensitive to Kevin’s feelings, an important quality in a friendship. With the two year meth addiction, Chase continues to financially and emotionally drain out his family however; the problems becomes worse when Chase escapes from his dealer's house. Richard Cross, the man Chase attacked, died and as a result, Chase is charged with murder. His mother secretly proceeds to monetarily support Chase but when she was caught, the bond between the family members exacerbated. Time elapsed and Chase was finally caught when stealing a car however, he dies shortly after and overdose and becomes brain dead. This part appeals to the readers logos. while reading this part the reader was trting to understand why Hans couldnt find somewhere else for Max to stay. Hans could've just let Max stay, and really showed how brave he was during the end of the book. This cowadice action was a disadvantage for Max because he had to go through so much once he was put out.
All thanks to his friend Walter kugler. Walter is Max 's best friend. Walter and Max started battling each other growing up, yet soon got to be companions. In the early phases of the Holocaust, Walter helps Max avoid the Nazis and organizes Max to stay at Hans Hubermann 's place. Even though Max is going through tough times he is able to keep a strong relationship with walter. Despite the fact that Max is experiencing extreme times he can keep a solid relationship with walter. Secondly is the relationship Max has with Liesel. In spite of the fact that Liesel is apprehensive meeting Max to begin, they soon turn out to be great companions. They share bad dreams as their first talk together. Max has left his family and Liesel has lost her sibling. Sharing their mishaps the two get to be associated through sharing their souls and the printed word. Liesel instructs Max that he can express his sketchy identity through words. "i have hated the words and i have loved them, and i hope i have made them right” (528). Max and Liesel have grown to love and learn from one another. Lastly, is the relationship Max has with Hans before leaving them. In “Chac Mool”, Carlos Fuentes uses magical realism to express the relationship between the past and the present. The short story begins with the narrator, a co-worker of Filbert, who learns about Filbert’s tragic death and goes to pick up the man’s possessions. However, the narrator soon discovers Filbert’s journal, which depicts his struggle with the sculpture of Chac Mool. The form in which the story is presented emphasizes a collision between the past and present. This is because the journal entries tell the tale of Filbert’s encounter with the Chac Mool before his death, thus the reader’s conscious is constantly being divided between the past and the present. As a result, the very structure of the short story serves as a way to emphasize the surreal flow of the past into the present.
In today's society there are lots of people that believe that dumb people can not accomplish anything in there whole life. From the book Freak the Mighty this point is proven wrong. Max and Kevin, are the two most important characters in Freak the Mighty, they can both be described as dynamic characters. Each of them goes through major changes that are revealed through their actions, and by what the author says about them. Maxwell embodies the archetype of the hero's journey. I will discuss this issue using the fact that he has a birth, a calling/journey, and a return.
It is evident that Max tries to escape his reality and get lost in a world where he can find freedom from his complex troubles, much like every other child in the world today whom does not know how to deal with such chaotic and complicated thoughts. Max, unknowingly comes face to face with all his emotions through the lives of others, helping him to come to an understanding in his escape. In the film “Where the Wild Things Are” Max’s sister ignores him, he feels his mothers new boyfriend is taking her from him and he is overall portrayed as a lonely, lost character. Wait Till Next Year is a book written by Doris Kearns Goodwin. Wait Till Next Year is a book written in Goodwin’s point of view set in Rockville Center, New York. The book begins with Goodwin’s father teaching her the scorekeeping rules of baseball in the summer of 1949. After her father taught her how to properly record a baseball game she would sit in front of the radio and listen to the game every day and would record everything each player did during that game. Then when her father would arrive home from work she would relay to him all that had happened during the game of that day. As Goodwin looks back on this in her book she begins to think that it is because of these times with her father that she has a love for history and for storytelling.

The novel seeks to offer a deeper view into Haitian society and covers an array of themes such as the politics of survival, resiliency, and feminist culture in Haiti. Throughout the novel, Gay is highly critical of mainstream media because of how they depict and silo Haiti as a poor and helpless country. Haiti’s historical stance on censorship is well documented, and as a Haitian writer living in America, Gay is successful in giving agency to the voiceless by chronicling the stories of the Haitian diaspora. “One person’s craziness is another person’s reality”- Tim Burton. In the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, the protagonist Guy Montag learns this as the book progresses. In the beginning of the book, he comes across situations that he finds preposterous, like the suggestion of reading books. In the end of the book, those unhinged ideas become his reality. As the book advances, we get glimpses of how Montag’s thoughts of society change. Guy Montag goes through a special character transformation throughout the book, starting as a loyal fireman and ending up as a book-reading rebel.
Although the style is similar to that of much of the detective fiction of Wright's day, some readers find it perfectly suited to a novel told from the point of view of an uneducated youth driven by overpowering feelings of fear, shame, and hate. Even the novel's cliches, such as "he had his destiny in his grasp," may fit a central character who gets his information about the larger world from the cliche-ridden mass media. Wright worked within the literary conventions of his time, but he also subverted them to create a unique and powerful voice. In Book Three, the novel's pace slows down, and the narrative becomes more philosophical as Max delves into the social and psychological implications of Bigger's case. Max's speech to the court is the climax of the novel, as he pronounces upon Bigger.
