Did you know that there are nine million members participating in a form of Greek life across the nation and the numbers are growing? (“National” 3). There are fraternities and sororities that everyone can join in colleges or universities. A university is the definition of diversity. Universities are meant for gaining a higher education as well as learning to go into adulthood. Many fraternities and sororities can be exciting and have an uplifting experience. Fraternities and sororities can help with becoming an adult as well.They can help build friendships and help understand a role of leadership. Everyone knows sororities as the opposite of fraternities. There are many double standards when it comes to the greek life. Sororities are meant to be known as posh and conservative. Fraternities are filled with leniency and loose rules,especially during rushes. A rush is when college students are interested in some form of greek life and get to know and understand the fraternity of sorority. Students will see if they like these kinds of greek organizations and apply to see if they will get accepted into the club.The average sorority rush is considered very conventional. Most of the females that are getting considered to be a part of the sorority are not allowed to speak or meet with any of the sorority sisters in the house while going under the process (Auditore 4). Fraternity rushes are extremely informal and mostly involved with binge drinking and partying. Many pledges are found when throwing large parties at the fraternity house (Auditore 4). The freedoms that fraternities get are very much different than sororities. Many believe that boys will be boys and girls should be conservative. These freedoms are being stripped away from sororities, while the strict rules do not apply to the number of fraternities taking advantage of the unlimited liberations.
