The Effects of Hydraulic Fracturing What is Fracking? Hydraulic fracturing, also known as ‘fracking’ is a technology that involves the extraction of natural gases through the injection of harmful chemicals, sand, and water. This technique includes the process of drilling a hole deep within the surface layer of the environment. As a result, it deteriorates the density of the land, pollutes the air, and contaminates underground drinking water sources. According to Bill Freemans’s “Fracking Is Not Harmful to the Environment,” the author argues that fracking is a technique that does not harm the environment and that instead, it helps the United States achieve energy independence. In contrast to his statement, hydraulic fracturing should not be …show more content…

According to James Hansen, a former head of climate change in NASA and Makiko Sato, a researcher in global change, “…global warming can be assigned under the premise that fossil fuel CO2 emissions are the primary issue for long-term warming” (2016). Their experiment involved the collection of local temperature from different hemisphere during diverse seasons for the purpose of illustrating the regional changes through the use of bell curves. The result exhibited that certain hemisphere was warmer compared to others in response to the practice of burning fossil fuels. Therefore, causing the increase in Carbon dioxide concentration. The Carbon dioxide turns into to heat and other deadly compounds generating a shift in the climate, leading to wildfires, flooding, earthquakes, etc. For instance, Greenland is a country known for having a large amount of ice, however, the ice is now melting due to the increase of heat, over the years. Hence why sea level continues to increase, which will soon lead to flooding and other devastating events. These indications dismiss Freedman’s claim since human usage of fossil fuels does promote global
