Dance is an escape, a passion to some, but a language anyone can speak. Every style of dance expresses emotion through the movements, music, and connection with oneself and others. Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, in the movie Top Hat, performed a foxtrot to “Cheek to Cheek.” Antonio Banderas and Katya Virshilas danced the tango in Take the Lead. The foxtrot and the tango demonstrated different levels of emotion, as well as, different levels of intensity, but they are also rather similar.
In the beginning of “Cheek to Cheek, I had a difficult time trying to distinguish the style of dance the two were performing while the singing was taking place because my only knowledge of ballroom, other they the few dances learned in class, is Dancing with the Stars. But with the singing, I could see that this style of dance offered a chance of being more social between the partners building a deeper emotional connection. Once the music …show more content…

The foxtrot was a simple, yet entertaining dance for the ages with inspirations from classic waltz that uproared during vaudeville and is now performed in ballrooms all over the world. On another step, pun intended, the tango originated during the 1880s in the lower-class district of Buenos Aries that came from African and European influence. Although these dances come from different continents, they both came from lower-class dancers just trying to get through life. I like the foxtrot because of the uplifting atmosphere around it, and the sophistication that come when performing it. The tango, I believe, can be a difficult dance to learn, but I would feel a great accomplishment in doing it. I enjoyed watching both dances in the video and would love to learn them both, but the tango is the dance I would rather perform because it is a passionate dance that gives females a chance to be sensual and teasing as she is being led around the dance
