What is an American? Maybe someone born in the United States, no, it can’t be, that is way too simple. An American is a person in which they have their own rights and freedom. Within the United States there are two theories, the salad bowl and the melting pot. The salad bowl you can mix it up with anything but at the end you can separate everything again. The Melting pot on the other hand can not be separated at the end because it is all put together in one single soup. The melting pot is what America truly is. How about freedom, the 4th of July? Albeit, the fact that all these reasons show what an American truly is, the cons are always there along with the pros. th To begin with,What is freedom? The 4th of July is just an ordinary day for the rest of the world. But for the Americans the 4th of July is a day we celebrate freedom. Within the Salad Bowl you mix all your ingredients. At the end you can always pick out everything and it will be apart. This happens in America, you might have a family who has been living in America for generations but they can always go back into their old heritage and live with that culture again. For example a Italian family may celebrate all these American celebrations but at the end create italian dishes and forget about America. In the same website, www.cato.org it states within the 1st paragraph, “We celebrate July Fourth as the day the Declaration of Independence created the United States. But in my heart I also honor July 15. On that day in 1930 Giustino DiCamillo, my grandfather, arrived here with my grandma, aunts and an uncle to start their lives as Americans. My mom was born the next year.” It states that he celebrates American celebrations but he always celebrates the culture and the day his family was brought to America.
