School is the foundation of life. It guides us to success and prepares us for the future. Unfortunately, school is difficult; some schools are using a four day school week to help kids cope with the struggles. However, because of longer school days and unwanted expenses, schools should not adopt a four day school week. Many schools argue that a four day school week will give students a less stressful school week. However, a four day school week with longer school days could lead to students being more stressed about after school events. Studies show that an estimated 56% of students participate in sports and over 60% percent participate in afterschool activities. Many of these students enjoy doing their activities whether it’s as a hobby or just for fun. If the school days are longer, kids would struggle to find the strength to do what they once enjoyed. Following a long, bustful day of school, students feel burnt out with a lack of energy. Studies show that 95.8% of families have a job during Monday thru Friday. This leads to children being home alone on Friday if a babysitter is not provided. Bill Florence stated, “ I spend $1,500 a month on daycare for my children, and the expenses are getting too high.” The fact that parents aren’t home on Friday could lead to more money being spent of daycare instead of families having fun with each other. Furthermore, on Fridays, some families can’t buy meal for their family without a meal provided by the school of Friday. Unfortunately, over 15% of families live in poverty and would not be able to provide a lunch for their family without the school. Many kids would go hungry on Friday without a proper meal
