History of Ford
Henry Ford was born on July 30, 1863, in Michigan. In 1903 Henry Ford set out to change the automotive industry by creating Ford Motor Company and the assembly line. In 1896 Henry Ford invented the Quadricycle. It had four bike tires and a rear engine. It couldn’t go faster than twenty-eight miles per hour, and weighed 770 pounds. In 1899 Henry Ford joined a group of other investors and helped to found Detroit Auto Company. He left within the first year of the company starting (Company Timeline).
In 1903 Ford Motor Company is founded and incorporated. There were twelve investors, and 1,000 shares of company stock. Ford started with $28,000 and by July 23, 1903 they spent almost all of it. By October 1,1903 they made a profit of $37,000. In 1904 Ford Motor Company Canada was founded. The Ford logo was trademarked in 1907. In 1908 the famous Model T was introduced. In 1913 they introduced the auto assembly line, which could make a Model T chassis in one and a half hours instead of twelve. In 1914 “$5 a day” was introduced and the workers only worked for 8 hours instead of nine. In 1917 Ford introduced their first truck, the Model TT. Also in that year Ford began crash testing their vehicles. In 1956 Ford became a publicly traded stock, and is part of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1957 Ford introduced the Edsel. In 1959 Ford Credit was founded, and is still running today. The iconic Ford Mustang hit the market in 1964. By 1965 Ford-Philco engineers produced the Mission Control Center to put a man on the moon. Another thing from that year was Ford Germany and U.K. worked together to release the Ford Transit in Europe. At the Le Mans race in 1966, and the Ford GT Mk IIs get first, second, and third in their car class.
