The Organization The organization that I volunteered at was the Carroll County Food Pantry in Carrollton, Kentucky. This operation runs every Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3-5 p.m. for all community members, and on every third Wednesday 9:30 am-12: 30 pm specifically for the elderly. Throughout the week, the pantry gathers numerous volunteers. In fact, every month the local churches of Carroll County will rotate and work the food pantry on assigned days. The day I volunteered was the third Wednesday of the month at the Senior Center. The churches do not help on these days, so the volunteer group consisted of the Senior Center Director, the Food Pantry Director, a few local businessmen, and community level inmates from the Carroll County Detention …show more content…

We had individuals packing, people checking the boxes for accuracy, and a group who was carrying all the items out to the cars of the elderly. Every time we thought we were ahead in packing, there would be 10 more senior citizens who would walk in. Misty Stephens, the director of the Food Pantry, said that we served about 200 or more families/individuals. Assessing the Environment There are many aspects of the environment that play a crucial role in both the success and delivery of the Carrollton Food Pantry. First of all, one of the most influential characteristics of the pantry is that it is situated in a centralized location of the city, which is fortunately near where most of the Section 8 housing locations as well. Additionally, the pantry had a delivery service for the individuals who are residing in the more rural parts of the city or who are without a means of transportation. According to the Data Access and Dissemination Systems (2016), the per capita income for Carroll County residents is $21,845 and the median household income is $41,310 per family.
