While looking through all the Follow-on Service Project examples, they all sound interesting, especially the K-12 outreach. Some ideas that stood out to me include presenting to local students about my experience abroad, serving as a mentor to potential study abroad students, submitting an article about my experience abroad, and hosting a photography exhibit in my campus or within the community. While they all sound fun, I also want to do something that incorporates two of my passions, which is photography and film. Through a camera, we able to capture moments we want to treasure and see things through different perspectives. It is a powerful tool. The art we can create through photography and film is almost limitless and fascinates me. I am …show more content…
Therefore, as a personal Follow-on Service Project, I plan to produce a video about my experience abroad. I will present the video to local communities and talk about my experience abroad. It may be a short informative video or even a music video detailing my experience abroad. It could even be an informative video where I interview various individuals from different cultural backgrounds on their perspectives and experiences studying abroad. There are a lot of options but I know it will be video-based. It will be hard to narrow down a year of experience into a 5-minute video but I also understand that people have a short attention span. For many people, 5 minutes is an ideal video length, which is why I am aiming for a short video for this …show more content…
Many companies are seeking individuals who have study abroad experience. Intercultural exchange is important in our growing economy. We are connected through various countries. Most of the stuff we consumed is imported from a different country. Therefore, it is important for individuals to travel to a different country to understand the connection between cultures. I believe studying abroad will lead us to be a more wholesome individual. It is a nice break from your daily routine in your home community. It will give you more time to reflect on your self and the

My favorite service project was my silver award for girl scouts. Before Jamie Lince, Faith Brown, and I did the silver award the hoophouse by the elementary school was very rundown. There were holes in the plastic, weeds in the beds, and the wood chips in the aisles were worn down. The hoophouse couldn’t be used. We wanted to fix that problem. First we applied for grants. I never knew how many steps or how much time this would take. It really taught me how to handle deadlines so things get turned in on time. It also taught me that there are people that want to support you, and you just need to find them. The two grants that we received were a Lowes grant for fifteen-hundred dollars and a seed grant from Van Atta’s. The second step was to get people to help weed out the beds so we could plant the seeds we got from the grant. This took a few hours and a lot of people from the community showed up to help. The Lowes grant was used for the plastic that goes on the outside of the hoophouse and new wood chips for the aisles in the hoophouse. We had to have the help of Mr. Montry who makes hoop house...
This year I have served 74 hours for Learner Leadership Council, 27 hours for National Charity League and 17 hours for New Tech High at Coppell. One of my favorite places to volunteer is at Cornerstone Closet where homeless adults come to get needed items and take showers. We get to help them find clothes, and necessities and spend time talking with them. Another organization that I spend a great deal of time serving in the summertime is Metrocrest. We put together the food backpacks for families through the Backpack Summer Hunger Project. These organizations reach out to other organizations and charities and assist with acts of service. Even on campus I have been able to serve others. Being a NTH@C Tour Ambassador has been an important way for me to give back to my school. I enjoy showing others our learning environment and the importance of what happens each day. By attending clubs on campus is also another way that I feel is a pertinent way to serve alongside others and celebrate their passions. School events such as ‘The Day’ and other school wide bondings also exemplifies service participation. It is a powerful way to show our connection to those around us on a daily
A. Determination of the feasibility of one of the proposed service lines in the attached “Service Line Development Case Study”. Trinity Community Hospital is based in an economically sound community. Structured 25 years ago, in a prime location, this 150-bed, non-for-profit hospital offers to the community residents a broad range of general medical, surgical, and support services. The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) of 2010 signed into law requires a non-profit hospital to conduct a community needs assessment. To justify their tax exemption every three years, a thorough analysis of community assessments will be widely publicized.
Furthermore, I am highly passionate in photography. As a means to break the ice, our residents should engage in a group bonding project where each person presents an creative project that demonstrates who they are as well as their cultural upbringing.
The time period I have decided to travel to is right after World War 2, from the years 1945 to 1965. These years are full of strong emotions and this will work to my advantage with the style of video that I wish to produce. Along with advantages also come disadvantages, though.
On the first day of class, the professor would present a very generic service trip-- maybe the class could pick which one to tackle from a list. It would possess characteristics that are not helpful to the community and do not represent an understanding of their culture, things like teaching English or “helping” build things. This would serve as our rough draft.
The idea of "Mandatory Service" developes an image in my head that totally disregards the whole idea that the U.S. is built upon, "Freedom". when you force someone to do something, weather its serve in hospitals, city parks, or libraries that person will gereraly have a poor attitude twards what theyre doing.
Standing out of the crowd is a great way to get attention for a good job or acceptance into a university. Taking a gap year to study abroad can open many doors and help teens become better equipped to identify and interact with people from other cultures. “With so many international experiences available, more than 80% of gap year students say their experiences make them more globally aware” (Salisbury). In an expanding business world, increased cultural awareness and even language skills will help future teens of the workforce be more successful in their careers.
My favorite thing about doing these service projects is that there are many available opportunities to help and that I would be able to resolve issues facing a community. Community work takes time, patience, and dedication, therefore it is not a simple task. However I believe that as I grow older, I would continue to look forward doing community services. Not just because of benefits I get from it, but because I feel a sense of achievement from my ability to help

Prior to this course, I knew photography was a part of my every day life. After experiencing this course, I know I knew little about photography. Photography is definitely part of my life, but as I reflect on my sixteen-week progression, I realize that everyone can take a picture but “taking a photograph” as an art. My initial thoughts were that with smart phones we are all “photographers” sharing and it has become part of our visual culture, but not all photos deserve appreciation. Although I believed I had an eye for interesting things and liked to shoot pictures from angles or interesting features, I realized that knowing more about the functions and diversity a quality camera could provide was missing. Photography has been a vital part of my personal history and now will be a bigger part of my life as I am armed with knowledge and experience with angles, lighting, settings and Photoshop so the memories I capture will have a stronger purpose. Point and shoot has transitioned into a passion for finding interest in a subject and utilizing my knowledge to create artful photos. Ordinary or standard shots will be a part of my past. Reflecting on my interest in photography as a potential path for my future, or a part of an overall career choice, I realized that if I continue on a public relations or marketing path, photography will be a critical part of my career. Photography 181 has given me invaluable information that will be carried on into my future in both business and personal arenas. My place in photography will continue to include sports action photography as I am an athlete and appreciate these, as well as in editorial or brand image photography as part of my career.
The world is full of wonders and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, that we take advantage of. Traveling is the ultimate education and it never fails as a teacher. It teaches you things no class can about the world and yourself. Seeing a historical spot and being in the environment it is in teaches you what no text book can. Most people hear about what is happening in the world through the bias not understanding media. However, if you are a traveler the real world influences you in a way the media will never be able to. We understand how the world works with its many cultures and lifestyles. Being a part of and experiencing different cultures broadens your views of the world and changing’s what you think of the world. Having expanded knowledge and understanding about culture is not the only thing travelers have. Finding your true self and learning about who you are is the best thing about being a traveler. There is no better way to find yourself because when you travel you open yourself up to millions of opportunities. Without travel you may be completely unaware of your true persona. Your limits are tested and you are completely out of your comfort zone when traveling. Getting out of the comfort zone helps you grow as a person and see your potential. I have experienced many different cultures that have personally changed myself and my outlook of the world. Traveling has given me the greatest education I know more about the world, cultures, and myself. Being a traveler is a huge blessing in my life I am so glad I am able to travel and see the world. Nothing can take away the memories that traveling and being a traveler has brought me. Get out there and see this beautiful world for yourself and become a traveler, you will not regret
