Florida International University is a public school that is located in Miami, Florida. FIU has a population of 41,038 students, also the majority of the students are Cuban or Cuban decedents. The area on which the university was constructed was an abandoned air field. It is also one of the top 10 largest universities in the United States of America. When attending FIU one should consider the admission criteria, tuition, and academic majors. Also, it is important to have academic support, understand the college’s demographics, and familiarize oneself with campus life. Some academic majors include public health and public relations. Public health includes promoting and protecting the health of the people and the communities that they live in. There are more than 100 majors offered at FIU. A Bachelors degree is offered in public relations, which is the protection of iconic people or companies. Bachelors, masters, research doctorate, and professional doctorate are all offered at FIU but only for certain majors. When attending Florida International University classes could become tough but that difficulty could be simplified with the offered academic support. Academic support is when someone checks in with you every once in a while. at FIU, if a students grade point average falls below 2.0 then that student then goes on academic probation. Academic probation means that if your grades do not start going up then you will be dismissed from campus. FIU has two major campuses, Modesto A. Maidque Campus (MMC), and Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC). MMC is located in west Miami-Dade county, MMC is also built on a 342 acre abandoned airfield. Panther Mover is a service provided at MMC that shuttles students around the campus. MMC is also the former home to Marty’s cube, a giant cube that students used to spin to get good grades on exams. MMC also has a lot of places to eat including Moe’s, Subway, Chipotle, Starbucks, and many more. MMC is also home to “The Cage” or FIU stadium which is where the golden panthers play
