Fitness Analysis Paper The last few years have taught me a lot about myself and have shown me my strengths and weaknesses. I have come to recognize my passion for running. I believe that my running scores have improved so much because during the summer between 9th and 10th grade I used running as a stress reliever, as an emotional release, and I would often times find myself going on prayer runs. Soccer also got me into shape so that I had the strength to run faster and longer distances. I have to admit that I don’t necessarily work on doing push-ups, benching weight, or planks very often. The superman has never been my strong suit probably because it requires your body to use a lot of different muscles. I am kind of surprised that my superman didn’t improve much over the soccer season because I was in shape at the time, but maybe I just wasn’t working the right muscles. Crunches are something that I used to work on more in 9th grade, but now I don’t work on them as much probably because I don’t like them very much so I choose to do other things. Flexibility has always been something that I struggle with because it takes a lot of time to become more flexible. I don’t have the kind of time needed to increase my flexibility, so that’s why my sit and reach score hasn’t changed. Swimming has always been one of my weaknesses because I don’t enjoy it and because I have asthma. Chlorine in the pool tends to affect my asthma, which makes it harder for me to breathe. Breathing is a very important part of swimming, so I tend to struggle with that. I genuinely like exercising and being active because I love the feeling that you get after a hard workout or a long run. Physical health deals with life choices that can either harm or help the user’s body. My physical health relays around sports such as basket-ball, Soccer, Discus throwing, Shot-put throwing, and weight lifting. My strengths in physical health is my exercising, caring for my body, and avoiding non healthy behaviors. I make sure my body is in athletic shape so I can conquer any athletic challenge in my path of life. My Weaknesses are eating healthy and getting enough sleep. This is due to a busy schedule and family meals. One of my weaknesses in athleticism is my pull ups, I used to not be able to do one single pull up but I’ve managed to do two pull ups at current athletic shape. I am continuing to lose weight of body fat while gaining weight in muscle.
Each game, my passion grew. Each team, new memories and lifelong friends were made. Sports sometimes make me feel disappointment and at loss; but it taught me to be resilient to a lot of things, like how to thrive under pressure and come out on top. Being the team captain of my high school’s football and lacrosse team showed me how having a big responsibility to bring a group together to work as one is compared to many situations in life. Throughout my life, I had always received recognition for being very agile and quick. My first day of Middle School consisted of the track and field coach attempting to persuade me to join the school’s athletics program. I had previously never been apart of an athletics team, and was willing to take advantage of the opportunity. Throughout my three years of middle school, I was the one consistent member of the school’s track and field team and had an overall successful personal record. Coaches from opposing school would praise me leaving me feeling very confident about myself.
Athletics has made a difference in my life through its redefining of the word “success.” Before I got involved with track and cross country, success was measured by goals I set and achieved for myself that made me happy. Since then, I have realized that success is much more gratifying when it is dependent on making those around me proud. In track, success is when I have trained hard enough so that I am able to help my relay team win a race or break the school record. In cross country, success is when I have built up enough endurance to contribute to the team score and help my team move on to the state meet. This mentality has translated to my daily life, as I am constantly working hard to please those around me. At school, I always do my homework and get good grades so that my teachers do not have to focus extra energy on getting me to do my work. At work, I strive to go above and beyond my typical duties so that I can lessen the responsibilities of my co-workers. My mission statement is that I want to become a physical therapist so I can use the gifts God gave me to serve others and to worship God in serving. Before I can accomplish this I need to set out goals for myself, both long term and short term goals, and attain those goals and make those steps towards my mission. My short term goals for this physical education project are to become stronger, stay active, learn new sports, and improve in old sports. The performance area that I have chosen to focus on are altering the motivational behaviors that I possess in my everyday life. This is a very important performance area for me because it is an area I feel needs the most attention. After losing the opportunity to continue to play basketball at the Collegiate level last year because of injury really had an impact on my life. I believe that not being able to play sports anymore decreased my desire to be active daily. As an English major I suffer from sleep deprivation because of the amounts of work that are assigned at one time that must be completed. As an athlete, I was forced to go to sleep at night because I was tired from workouts, but made it much harder to get work done. The five parts of fitness are flexibility, muscular endurance, muscular strength, cardio vascular fitness and body composition. Each and everyone one of these components are important to one another. For example in order to have optimal muscular strength it is important to have good flexibility. When working a muscle one of the major things to look at is if a full range of motion is being used. This will ensure that the muscle in question is being strengthened at every angle possible. Another example would be body composition and train. Fat is a liability in either cardiovascular training or weight training. When partaking in cardiovascular training someone with a poor body composition will be at a disadvantage to someone with an optimal body composition. When partaking in weight training exercises someone with a poor body composition would not be able to partake in plyometric training or any high intensity work outs without a safety concern.
Cross country and track have taught me more about the essence of dedication, perseverance, and support than any other high school activity. Being a runner has shaped me into an independent individual who pushes through hardships and stops at nothing to achieve ambitions. In my narrative paper, I wrote in detail about my last track season of my high school career. In this essay I discussed the process of practicing and working towards achieving my goals at the end of the season. I talked about my relationship with my coach and how important it was to me, as well as my determination and perseverance during the track season. I also discussed how I finally achieved my goal of breaking twelve minutes in the 3200 meter run and how much it meant to me as a runner. Writing this essay about my personal experience with running sparked my interest in learning all of the health benefits that come with running on a regular basis. My fitness background is fairly limited. I have never enjoyed physical activity. In high school, I needed two years of physical education. I participated in the school marching band for four years. Since being in college, I have tried on several occasions to start and maintain a workout regime. Typically I start strong for a week or two. Recently I have been making an effort to workout at least once a week with my mom, outside of taking this yoga class. My usual workout consists of walking on a treadmill for 20 minutes, riding the bike for 10 minutes, 3 reps of 10 back curls, 3 reps of 10 crunches and 3 reps of 10 abdominal rows.
