In Hands-on Squishy Circuits, AnnMarie Thomas showed us how she took a home-made PLAY-DOH recipe and turned it into a science experiment. It’s amazing that three and four year old children play with something so revolutionary. We may not realize this now, but if we start introducing this stuff to these children, they’re going to become such intelligent adults. I ask myself this question everyday,”Do I want my child to be successful in life, or let them flip burgers at McDonalds?”. I want my child to be able to learn and succeed as they progress in life. This is extremely important for children these
Banning books from public schools and public libraries is wrong. It’s irrational to have a parent or school board member’s opinion determine what a school district should be reading. Books including and not limited to, The Scarlet Letter, The Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Lord of the Flies, and Animal Farm all have one thing in common. They have all at one time or another been subject to banishment. These literary classics have been around for a long time and proved to be vital to the education of many, especially children and adolescents. These novels teach values and educate children about world affairs that can not come from an everyday experience. These controversial novels encompass the materials that ultimately boost our educational wealth. Banning books infringe

First,I believe Fidget spinners should be banned because they are distracting. They also make people around them think that they can just sit around and distract people doing their work. After a good bit of time the teacher will stop class and probably
At the tender age of seven years old, my Grandmother taught me how to play blackjack. My Grandma on my Dads side would teach me how to bet and maximize my earnings. I remember how my Aunts and Uncles would tell each other and my Grandma that it was not a good idea to show me how to gamble. Every time we would visit my Grandparents I would always bring my money. In order to fund my card playing, I had to find ways to earn money. I would collect cans and bottles from neighbors. Just a few years later, I was mowing lawns, raking leaves, watching after pets, watering lawns and even waxing cars all over the neighborhood. My Dad would always complain about his lawn mower getting pushed up and down several different streets. As time went on, I started
The last reason fidget spinners shouldn’t be used by children is that the spinners are being misused. A way fidget spinners are being misused is children will use them as toys even though they are meant to help one focus. The next way the spinners are being misused is that people will buy and use them for tricks instead of their intended purpose. Lastly, the spinners are being sold as toys instead of being sold as help for kids with ADHD or other problems that a fidget spinner might help.
Fidget spinners are helpful spinning fidgets offer benefits aside from mindless fun others call it fidget therapy and say the device is supposed to boost concentration, reduce anxiety and stimulate learning. Students with autism or those with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, know as ADHD can benefit from fidget therapy ADHD makes it hard for students to concentrate or sit still but using a fidget toy can help to concentrate or sit still . There is at least some evidence that foot tapping , squirming , hyperactivity and other times of energy such as fidget spinners. Scientific American explains that although fidget spinners provide an ulterior subject to focus on, it may be too much of a good thing. The same publication states, “By contrast, putty, stress balls and other therapeutic fidget items don’t have this visual attention problem. They can serve the same purpose as the spinners, but are more classroom-ready and less distracting” (Isbister). Fidget spinners are part of a noisy, disruptive fad that requires more concentration on fidgeting and less on occupying your hands in order to better focus on a lesson that is being taught. Time Magazine references several experts in saying that “silent, unimposing toys” are the most conducive to liberating excess energy and nervousness. Even fidgeting in a chair can help improve test scores according to a 2015 study that compared the test results of those who were required to sit still verses those who fidgeted (Healthday). While the flashy fidget spinner has no evidence to back itself up, experts agree that a purer, simpler fidget is the way to go for better
In “Hooked on ‘Caramel-Colored Gold,” Melody Nelson claims “Despite the increased awareness of the benefits of good nutrition, we are a nation hooked on junk food, and many school administrators are taking advantage of the situation ” (par. 3). Nelson propose a ban on vending machines in schools because junk food is unhealthy for children, and they risk future health problems. I agree with Melody Nelson and believe that vending machines should be banned from school campuses, because they sell unhealthy food, they cause more money to schools for hiring extra custodians, and they are affecting children learning abilities.
In this day and age where school administrators consider backpacks, lockers, and baggy pants to be potential dangers to students and faculty, what will be next? Perhaps pencils, pens, scissors, and glue will be added to the list of items to ban from schools. These, along with other hazardous educational necessities pose real threats to maintaining an orderly school and should be prohibited.
In conclusion, iPads are detrimental to young children's social skills; cause harm to balance, posture, muscle development and fine motor skills; are liable to cause an addiction in younger children; and slow down the ability to process words and sounds as well as limiting vocabulary. These reasons are concrete proof that children up to the age of seven should not be using devices in a one-on-one environment for the six hours daily that they are at school. As a country, do we want to have our younger generation being dependent on their smartphones, tablets, and internet; or do we want strong leaders who can think for themselves? The choice is yours New Zealand.
Cricket has always been a game dominated by batsmen and producing good bowlers is always a challenge, specifically spin bowlers. Spin bowling, that noble art of googlies, flippers, top spinners with the ball hissing from one direction to the other is more difficult than running in full steam a la Shoaib Akthar. The former is more about deceiving batsman with variations, loop and the dip rather than terrorizing the batsman with pace. Conventional wisdom sees spin bowling as an arrow which must be taken out of the quiver either in the dustbowls of the sub-continent or to contain the batsman. However, we are now seeing a change: captains have started recognizing spin bowling as more of a wicket taking option; the pitches are no longer 22 yards of concrete, rendering the contest between bat and ball a one-sided affair. Competitive pitches have started yielding results which has brought all the options into the game. Spin bowling by Indians over the last year and a half has far outstripped the ordinary fare we have witnessed over the last 4-5 years.

Do you think kids should be riding unsafe toys everywhere they go? Well that’s what they’re doing when they ride hoverboards. Hoverboards should be banned in public because of risk of injury, risk of fire, and risk of getting in trouble. Hoverboards may be the new trend, but why is being unsafe trending?
Each year, 21,300 infants visit hospital emergency room to treated injuries linked with baby walkers for children that are under fifteen months of age. Out of that 21,300 emergency room visits, two children die from the use baby walkers every year. Many people don’t realize how harmful a baby walker is to a child. Parents think it is an excellent tool that will benefit both them and their child. To them, baby walkers are a product that can be bought in the store, thinking it will entertain their child and help him/her learn how to walk faster. Oh boy, are they wrong. Baby walkers do not help a child learn how to walker faster. Baby walkers are not superb tools for any child to use. According to Dr. Baum, a local Pediatrician on Maui, “baby walkers are the number one thing Pediatricians hate.” Therefore, baby walkers should be banned in the United States because it slows down motor skills development, it is very dangerous to use, and parents end up spending less time interacting with their child.
