From 1900, all the way to 2018 the way that different types of cloths have changed is awesome to watch how the different outcomes in history have influenced and changed the way people have dressed throughout time. Some of the most popular styles are classic, they can endure the test of time and hardly ever "run out of style", only experiencing minor changes to retain up with the stylists. Other clothing items could be considered "fads", styles that are only popular for a short season and then never worn again. Often certain fashion trends are dependent on the preferences of particular groups of people or cliques and are commonly connected with social condition or cultural preferences like the type of music a person likings. Changes in skirts and dress fashion have varied and varied dramatically between the 1920s to the present, as well as within each ten. In 1920, only a few years after World War I, skirt and dress hemlines rose and waist lines lowered to the pelvis. These changes came with the boyish flapper fashions that marked the 1920's as a decade of decadence and fun. During 1926 to 1928, hemlines were reported to be at their Highest but once the stock market crashed in 1929 and the Great Depression set in, hem lines returned to a more conservative length (below the knee or lower). 1930s boasted a return to femininity and Hollywood glamour was idolized. Evening gowns showed bias-cuts and diamond accents and were made of chiffon or velvet. For a more cursory look in the thirties dresses were slim-cut and had wide shoulders and a smash around the waistline. Their style was introduced in the early 1910s but did not spark until the 1920s. The style was said to be more comfortable, but was not appealing to the more conservative. Before the change of style, most women were dressed modestly; however, women's fashion in the 1920s showcased a more “boyish” and comfortable, look which led to huge controversy and affects how women dress today. Although to society now, these changes may not be seen as a big deal, back then it would split society.

Women of the 1920's Women during the 1920's lifestyle, fashion, and morals were very different than women before the 1920's. Flappers became the new big thing after the 19th amendment was passed. Women's morals were loosened, clothing and haircuts got shorter, and fashion had a huge role in these young women. Women before the 1920's were very different from the women of the Roarin' 20's. Gwen Hoerr Jordan stated that the ladies before the 1920's wore dresses that covered up most of their skin, had pinned up long hair, were very modest, had chaperones and had men make all of their decisions (1).

Showing off your body was the new trend of the ‘20s. Flappers of the 1920 era started wearing shorter dresses and sleeveless tops to seem keener. Before the 1920’s, it was rare for women to even show their ankles let alone their knees. Not only did women start to wear “skimpier” clothing, but they also garnished themselves with accessories. It was all about that bling. Girls were obsessed with pearls, diamonds, and just about anything that looked expensive. They hated cheap dull accessories and wanted the real McCoy. Clothing was not the only change during this time. The way women did their hair and makeup changed. Beauty has evolved over the years. It all started with the Egyptians, who cultivated beauty in an extravagant way. Ever since then there has been a dramatic change in beauty and fashion which occurred during the decades of the 1920s, also called the era of the Flappers. It was a time where “good girls” could become worse in the evening. The 1920s was when cosmetic industries became bigger, with the help of the media. Every pharmacy and department store in the world had a makeup counter. The type of makeup women would purchase from the makeup counter were the latest powders, vanishing creams, pan stick, lipstick and mascaras. The “flappers” were the type of girls that wore all of those products and a lot of makeup. The use of heavy makeup became the fashion of the era, because of movie stars like Clara Bow and Mae Murray, who created the flapper attitude. Clara Bow was the one that started the cupid’s bow lip which became popular. It also created the image of 1920s women with their bow lip and dark eyes.
An interesting thing about the 1920’s was that when women began straying from the older generation’s styles and attitude, they become very interested in nudism, sex and petting parties. They also established modern day dating after they decided that they did not like the idea of courting anymore. Also, instead of trying to look older than they really were, women tried their best to look younger and prepubescent using dresses that did not show off curves and were practically completely straight.
In 1920s, then there was a big change for women. Women were beginning the feminist move. Women become more open minded and basically lived in a better lifestyle as opposed to being restricted. Women became independent. Flapper had broke the rule of what women could do and structure of society. Women smoked, drank, and also took risk. Women’s were only allowed freely clothes to dance. Fashion has been developing for as long as the Earth had been around, but the style people track today redirects generally to what was brought up during the roaring twenties, the era of a luxurious life. Women’s sartorial will experience many more future modifications which are predicted to be less modest and conservative. Men, on the other hand, will most likely not endure many changes. As fashion flourishes, society’s image on women, as well as men, will renovate into a more exposed mentality with a greater assortment of acceptance.
