This paper is the summary analysis of the health assessment on a family based on the family-focused questions of the following eleven health patterns: 1. “Values, health perception 2.Nutrition 3.Sleep/Rest 4.Elimination 5.Activity/Exercise 6.Cognitive 7.Sensory-Perception 8.Self-Perception 9.Role Relationship 10.Sexuality 11.Coping”.In the course of the interview and assessment, the author identified three wellness nursing diagnoses in the family that also form part of this paper. This author interviewed a family called Josephs. The family consists of a father, mother and two children. The father is 46 years old and the mother 44 years of age. The son is 20 and daughter 17. All family members respect each other’s space. The parents instilled good family values in the children at an early stage and they follow it. The parents follow the customs and traditions of the country they came from whereas both the children prefer to follow the American system. Questions regarding sexuality, they did not want to divulge any information, the father simply stated that they do not have any problem in that area. Both children got a proper sex education from schools and catechism classes. The family’s way of coping life situation is through family support, prayers and short vacations. Their open communication and support for each other, help them to reduce stress. The family’s deep rooted religious faith and seeking divine help at the time of troubles ease their stress and tensions. They do take short family vacations that help them to recharge their energies and get rid of tensions. One positive thing noticed about the family is that they do not use any medication for getting sleep or stress. No one in the family uses alcohol or tobacco except the father who smoke a pack of cigarettes and two pegs of whisky on a daily basis. 151). Further to the meeting and discussion with family, the author identified three wellness diagnosis. The first one is on an activity exercise pattern where the entire family needs a regular exercise regimen as the family is very poor in this area and the father is suffering from high blood pressure and high cholesterol and the mother is in borderline obese. The family has agreed to join a neighborhood fitness center for their regular exercise program. The second wellness diagnosis is for both the children whose excessive intake of aerated drinks/soda is not good for their health which, in fact, they are aware of it and now they are prepared to drink water in place of these drinks.
