John Herrman wrote an article for The New York Times to blame the internet for “Fake News” that circulates throughout Facebook. The article had an abundance of useful information from all angles, explaining several ways Facebook combats the issue of “Fake News”. I do believe a large amount of “Fake News” comes from the internet, and just circulates through facebook because it is shared by users. I agree with article four I think an abundance of “Fake News” comes from outside sources that Facebook has no control over. Facebook has evolved from a small social app that keeps family and friends connected to a large social networking chain of information. However, some sites were only trying to lure the audiences onto the outside site bombarded with ads for monetary value. Facebook wants to penalize websites that are loaded with too many ads. John Herrman said, “Facebook routinely sought to penalize sites it judged to be using the platform in bad faith, taking aim at “clickbait,” an older cousin of “Fake News,” with a series of design and algorithm updates”(John Herrman). Facebook set up several ways to keep from having to go to an outside site to see an article, but “Fake news” still appeared. Audiences that are taken to outside sites should not hold facebook responsible for the spams, because once you are outside of the platform you are on the internet and no longer in the safety of Facebook. “Fake news” is an internet problem not a facebook problem. Users share the news through their news feed, and it continuously circulates. Although, Facebook can install ways to block spammers and “Fake News” they can not stop users from sharing it. Telling a lie through Facebook is not a crime even if it is the president. Violations only occur when it goes against community guidelines, for example, bullying or harassment.
