Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, it shows that people these days are getting way too caught up in social media and other technology that they don't appreciate the real world enough. All around the world, human interaction can almost be described as old school because of how technology has become so advanced. Millie Montag and Professor Faber both illustrate how technology has taken over, but in different ways. Millie has an addiction to her television walls, an addiction so strong that she doesn't have the mindfulness to live in the present. She has been brainwashed by these walls and Montag gets irritated by it. Professor Faber on the other hand uses technology in a cowardly way. He is too afraid to go out in the real world and risk his life. He helps out Montag through the power of his technology. Montag risks his life, while Faber sits back …show more content…

Faber, unlike Millie, admits to being a coward. He can own up to it unlike Millie. “If you put it in your ear, Montag, I can sit comfortably, home, warming my frightened bones, and hear and analyze the firemen’s world, find it’s weakness, without danger.” (Bradbury 30) The power of technology has given Faber the opportunity hide behind his screens while Montag risks his life. Professor Faber wouldn't be the most ideal combat soldier, because he doesn't have the guts to act. Montag, however, is not all the same as Millie. He has knowledge of books and literature, and gives Montag some insight, "It's not books you need, it's some of the things that once were in books.. The same infinite detail and awareness could be projected through radios and televisors, but are not." (Bradbury 78) He portrays that technology takes away real experiences and denies people from really thinking.
