Factors that Affect Sports Performance
The factors that affect sports performance are:
Skill
Tactic
Fitness
Psychological
Diet
Sponsorship
Money/finance
These would affect sports performance in a big way. For example, you
would need to be fit, strong and have good motivation or you will not
be able to keep up with your team and you will keep going rather than
give in easily. You need concentration so that you can keep your mind
on the game and focus on winning. You can’t give in to pressure
easily; you need to be strong and able to keep calm during the game.
You need to learn tactics so that you will be able to outwit your
opponents.
Skills
======
A skill is something that you can do well or that you’re good at. It
is something you have to learn to be good at and you can improve with
practice. These skills can be learnt from teachers, friends, TV,
Internet etc.
General, specific, individual, team, self paced, externally paced,
fine, gross, open, closed, discrete and continued are all different
types of skills. These all mean:
General - Skills that we use every day in any sport,
Specific - Related to the sport and the position you play,
Individual - A skill you do on your own in a game situation,
Team - Something you do in a team,
Self paced – The start of the skill is determined by the performer,
Externally paced – The start of the skill is determined by an external
source,
Fine – Small muscle group produces delicate movements,
Gross – Major muscle groups produce big movements,
Open – The environment affects the skill,
Closed – The environment has no affect on the skill,
Discrete – The skill has a clear beginning and end,
Continuous – There is no beginning or end and is usually continued.
Examples of Hockey:
Self paced – Passing putt around,
Confidence can be defined as the positive feeling that you can achieve a certain goal. Confidence is not hoping for something to happen it is the something that u expect to happen. Self confidence is when a person believes he/she can achieve a certain goal on his/herself. A self confident athlete will show enthusiasm and be positive even if things do not go according to plan. For example, a confident team captain will not bring negative thoughts into the team players head when they are losing.
The mind-body connection is a very powerful one. For everything you think in your mind, your body has a reaction, regardless of whether it is real or imagined. For example, have you ever had a bad dream? Usually, you will wake up and your heart is racing, you are sweating and very agitated, even though all you were doing was sleeping. But, in your mind there was something bad going on and your body was reacting to it. Here?s another example: if you are home alone and you hear a noise and interpret it as the wind, you are fine; but if you interpret it as a prowler, your fight or flight response takes over and you become fearful. Your heart begins going a mile a minute, your eyes dilate, and you are scared. These are just a few examples of how strong the connection is between your mind and your body. With this premise, it becomes unmistakable how necessary it is to train both the mind and body for 'peak performance'.
What if sports and psychology had direct correlation to each other? The Wall Street Journal composed an article by Robert J. called, “Mind Games: Weekend Athletes Seek Help” which pertains to a new form of psychology called sports psychology, and how it could be beneficial to everyone not just world class athletes. Robert interviews non- professional athletes as well as people that exercise for leisure asking why they haven’t considered going to a sports psychologist their response was, “Insurers say counseling to improve athletic performance is the psychological equivalent of cosmetic surgery and the won’t pay for it. (2)” Due to not having the income or the status like Lebron James whom is an infamous two time NBA championship recipient, or the world renowned Olympian Michael Phelps who retires with 18 gold medals. These people cannot successfully fund a health benefit as costly as this or even be recommended for these type of therapeutic services. With that being said sports psychology should be available for all athletes instead of being limited to professional competitors because this form of psychology is altered specifically for the athlete this practice can decrease the statistics of mental health problems, keep athletes on one accord to perform better in there every day demands of life, smoothen the transitions between professional athleticism, and retirement as well as provide promising athletes coping mechanisms to help them adjust in early stages of their careers.
Sports is by far one of the fastest growing past times in the United States (Rainer
While working or while looking for work there are certain skills sets that are universally important. No matter what job or career path you have chosen these skills make it easier to obtain your goals, whatever they may be.
Sports programs have been an integral part of all schools. They support the academics of the school and therefore foster success in life. These programs are educational and help produce productive citizenship. They help students experience and build skills that may help them in their future, like interpersonal and time management skills. Education may kindle the light of knowledge, but sports help to maintain the proper physique. Sports are also an important means of entertainment and a use for energy after long hours of study. Sports increase a student’s performance not only in the classroom but also in their life.
Strength and conditioning of an athlete could be considered and art and science. It will require a vast knowledge of the sport, activities during practices and time management within the time frame of off-season, pre-season, in-season, and post-season. Baseball is one of sport that that will require most planning and management due to the intense schedule during the season. On the collegiate level, baseball season is stipulated to last for 16 weeks, plus playoff. During this time, teams will usually play one game during the week, and three games between Friday and Saturday.
When most think of performance enhancing in sports, they think of steroids and other drugs. While this is true, drugs represent only part of the true picture. There are other ways to enhance athletic capabilities that are legal and may seem to some to be ingenious. Performance enhancements in sports are unethical, unhealthy and need to be banned in professional sports. High-risk physical training, the use of drugs, or altering the human body with artificial limbs, is all performance enhancing, unfair and unhealthy.
Many people have something in their life that they consider themselves to be exceptional or reasonably competent at. The skill can vary from something such as memorizing, cooking, singing, or even participating in a sport. For me, the sport that I am reasonably competent at would be cheerleading. One of the greatest debates amongst topics such as those mentioned is whether the skills are acquired by nurture, which is a person’s experience, or nature, which is a person’s genes. For cheerleading, I would say that the skills are acquired by both nature and nurture. One is just as essential as the other when it comes to a sport such as this.
The skill that I am the best at or at least would give myself the highest score in would be showing empathy. I am not sure why I am skilled in this it just seems to come naturally to me. I have always found myself to be a very empathetic person who is able to understand the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and, attitudes of others almost as well as my own. One way that I have shown empathy is by being open to learning about the experiences of others including other cultures, races and religions. Learning about struggles of others and the impact their struggles have on the world as a whole has increased my ability to show empathy. I think that my empathetic nature has both helped me and hurt me in my life. It has helped me as a counselor, as

Talent is not enough to teach you a new sport or to make you good at it; as Chris declares “With regards to success, there are certain qualities that can hold greater value than talent alone, which are desire, persistence and hard work.” The talent someone has is not going to make a person intelligent the dedication and hard work will get the person to new levels of wisdom. Life is a battle to achieve personal goals, which can only be won by hard work at every aspect of it. Not only working hard at what you enjoy but also working hard at the obstacles that are put in front of
Vince Lombardi, one of the most successful football coaches of all time, said, “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but a lack of will.” Although Lombardi was primarily speaking about success on the turf, he was also speaking about success in life. Aside from being a phenomenal leader on the field, Lombardi was a leader in all aspects of life and stands as a role model for many young student athletes. When student athletes apply this extraordinary will to their academics alongside athletics, the stellar character of these young adults is revealed. Unfortunately for these athletes, many people, especially educators, blame athletics for struggles within the classroom. A common controversy amongst parents, educators, coaches, and athletes is if education is severely affected by athletic participation. When the results of classroom performance aren’t proficient or greater, it is easy to blame sports because of their time consuming nature. This topic carries a lot of weight for kids ranging from middle school to graduate students because, for many, involvement in athletics is a crucial part of developing important life skills that cannot be attained through a classroom setting, and may be the student’s only method of social outreach. Sports serve as a sanctuary, an escape, a passion, and so much more to each individual involved. Athletics have the potential to negatively impact education, if you allow them to yet research shows just as many cases of sports having positive affects on education as cases of sports being detrimental towards education. The truth of the matter is that your education is your responsibility, and sports cannot be blamed for a lack of succes...
Rookies may look at an MVP caliber athlete and try to emulate his lifestyle. Athletes are pressured to win, “no matter the cost.” This pressure may come from coaches, teammates, or even family members. Olympic athletes may be the most impacted athletes when it comes to the need to win attitude. An olympic athlete has one shot at glory; one shot at winning a medal for his or her country. This shot only comes once every four years, so they are certainly pressured to perform (“Top 10 Pros and Cons- Drug Use in
