Essay: Reality and Inception
Inception is a movie following a man named Dom Cobb who is a thief who steals thoughts from people’s deep sub conscious through the use of dreams, this is the act they call extraction. Dom is the best at this in the movie and such has made him a valuable asset to some and a dangerous fugitive to others. During the movie Dom and his team are offered a chance at redemption but they have to do something never done before, this being instead of extracting and idea planting one in someone’s mind. Long story short Cobb and his team eventually pull of the reverse heist. This is a fantastic movie, however, it has a very deep philosophical meaning and concept at its core, this concept being reality.

Descartes then stood to reason that he knew he was in fact thinking and that then leads to the fact that he exists; this belief then lead to Descartes famous saying “I think, therefore I am.”
The film and Descartes ideas kind of go against each other and also have some similarities. For instance, in the film Dom Cobb is able to think about whether or not he is in a dream and is able to be fully aware of whether or not he is possibly in a dream world or not. One thing however that Descartes reasoned and is very prevalent in the film is that Descartes believed we could not dream about something that we have not already previously experienced in our real world. The film also shows this concept, which was also shared by David Hume, in that in when the person who would enter the dream world created the world or “levels” they were unable to create the world without knowledge of things they had previously experienced in the real world.
