Newspapers becoming available on the internet, which can be accessed from most any mobile device, allows people to be informed while on the go. Rupert Murdoch created a newspaper called the Daily that allowed anyone with an iPad to view issues for ninety-nine cents a week (Vivian 95). Though this app was directed at a specific audience – iPad users who are willing to pay for their news. This app shows an example of the profitable world for newspapers online. Bringing the news online like this could result in a more informed democracy. Not everyone lives in an area that offers home delivery of newspapers so the ease of it being on the internet allows people to follow presidential elections, problems that arise in the government, and even criminal cases. News impacts our culture in ways we may never realize. Advertising was once a major resource for funds that newspapers relied on (Vivian 88). The book talks about magazines that are available online and update content daily (Vivian 101). This type of thing also allows our nation to be informed on politics, world concerns, movie scoops, and even celebrity gossip. Magazines merging into the online community mean that people all around the world have access to them and companies are able to reach audiences they may not have been able to before. The Internet serves as a vehicle to connect the world and because of this our culture is able to merge with cultures all around the world.
