Many historians refer to the early Middle Ages has the Dark Ages because of many reasons. The first reason is because the Roman Empire had fallen, and so there was no one holding the people together.
The second reason historians refer to the early Middle Ages as the Dark ages is because there was no one keeping the authority in order. So, since no one at this time was ruling, it led to some people being a little crazy! Some will say that the people were as nutty as a fruit cake.
The third reason historians refer to the early Middle Ages as the Dark ages is because since Rome fell everyone was distressed, and violence was also common at this time.
Although, there were some times when some people and events shed some light on all of this darkness.
