In 1607 colonists first settled in Jamestown. In May of 1610, only 90 people were still alive. So why did so many colonists die at Jamestown? People were dying frequently, with many different causes, like drought, disease, and indian attacks.
In the late summer of 1607, according to document E, 49 people died from disease. Sickness and disease was large factor in the number of deaths in Jamestown. As shown in document C, there were only two druggists, and two surgeons that came from Europe. With the lack of people who knew how to take care of the sickness and disease, many people fell victim to this and died. Brackish water also caused disease.
