Lesson 5 Review Questions
1. Review the basic anatomy of male and female dogs and cats; be sure to note unique features according to species.
For male cats, they have a penis, prostate, scrotum (with paired testes), which all aid in creating sperm and testosterone. Additionally, the most unique feature they have is that on their penis they have little spins and barbs that hold the penis in during ejaculation.
For female cats, they have paired ovaries and a long uterine horn, which allows for these types of mammals to have many young at one time unlike humans.
Male dogs have a prostate, and a sex accessory glad, which is unique to just male dogs. It produces something that goes into their sperm. Additionally, a male dog has a penis that has two parts the penis one and the bulbus.
Female dogs have paired ovaries, oviducts, cervix, and vagina. Moreover, all these structures help in assisting the dog to give birth to a litter of puppies.
2. Explain the difference in ovulation between cats and dogs. Which leads to more efficient reproduction and why? Which species is polytocous?
The difference in ovulation between the cat and dog is that cats allows for more efficient reproduction. Cat ovulation has five different stages to it has something called

They recommend that no earlier than eight weeks in both cats and dogs. However, for dogs the best time is usually around six months. While for cats it is between the fourth and fifth month that this surgery should be performed. Their reasoning behind it stems from a biological and sociological standpoint. One biological reason is that it will get rid of the possible diseases that could happen such as, cancer or other forms of problems that are associated with reproductive organs. Additionally, a societal reason is that there are already so many animals to begin in the world it would help to decrease the animal shelters endless list of homeless
The word “monotreme” is Greek for “one-hole,” referring to the cloaca that is the exit for the urinary, reproductive, and excretory systems (Dawson, 1983). The creatures are oviparous--the females lay eggs that develop outside of her body. This paper will explain the background of the animals, the anatomy of the tract and egg, breeding behavior, and genetics behind this unique reproductive system. It will pay special attention to the similarities of the monotreme reproductive system to those of animals we are more familiar with.
Prostate cancer has been the number one diagnosed cancer today. According to the World Health Organization, approximately one in every ten American men will develop prostate cancer during his lifespan. This cancer has been very common in the last few years. American Cancer Society reported over 200,000 new cases of prostate cancer. Huge number of population suffered severely. The prostate is significant for reproduction. It helps the substances that are involved in fertilization and transporting of sperm as well as survival. Prostate tumor is developed in the prostate gland, which is found in the men’s reproductive system. Prostate is the size of a walnut, which is located inferiorly in the penis and anterior to the rectum. It contains the connective tissue, which includes the glandular and fibrous tissues. This tumor starts to develop during their adolescent year due to the control of the male reproductive hormones. When the tumor starts to develop, it begins at the urethra, which is a tube that releases the urine from the bladder. The tumor is a slow development yet it is contagious to the other parts of the body, such as it does affect the pelvic bones, lungs, liver, and the lower vertebrae (Zenka, 2009).
Pet owners have varying opinions on whether or not spaying and neutering their animals is the right thing to do. When an animal is spayed or neutered, the organs that are responsible for reproduction are removed so that the animal is not able to produce offspring. This is also called “fixing” an animal. Neutering, which is done in males, is a surgical procedure in which the testicles of the animal are removed to prevent the production of sperm. While spaying, which is done in females, is a surgical procedure where the ovaries and uterus are removed. It is important to spay or neuter your pets because it is better for their health, character, and the world’s animal overpopulation.

The physical differences between males and females are deep voices, hair, and sexual organs. The primary physical characteristics are the sex organs, and the secondary physical characteristics are deep voices and hair. The cognitive differences between males and females are that males have a bigger right side

Typically males have XY chromosomes, and women have XX chromosomes; however, hermaphrodites are neither male nor female. One reason comes from Turner's Disease where the chromosomes are XO, and there is a sex chromosome missing. Another mutation is the XXY chromosomes, known as Klinefelter's Disease, which occurs in an average of one out of every 1000 births. There is also, Mosaicism, where different cells split into different parts, making up XY and XO chromosomes. Hormonal complications can change the gender...

The similarities and differences between the dog and the lizards’ digestive and reproductive systems are explored within this essay.
TRANSITION: Now that you know some different tail signals of cats lets talk about their territorial behaviors.
A dogs behavior is significantly more desirable than a cats. A dog is loving and friendly most of the time and enjoys a good belly rub as a reward. If you try and scratch a cats belly, the cat will try to scratch and bite you. A dog is incomparably easier to train than a cat. You can teach a dog to do anything from bringing you your newspaper to the simplest command, sit. As a result of being able to train a dog, a dog goes to the bathroom outside, leaving no stench behind in your house. Whereas, a cat uses a litter box to go to the bathroom, there is always a stench in your house. Dogs are also far better with children. Dogs form a far greater bond with newborn babies, and often times do not leave the child’s crib side. Also, a trained dog will not cause destruction to your house, while you cannot train a cat to not use their sharp little claws to tear at the side of your couches, and rip and shred all the way down your curtains. Dogs also do not jump places where most cats jump, such as in your lap on your laptop, or on your dinner table at dinner. A dog won’t be a surprise first thing in the morning laying in your bathroom sink either. A dog will lay nex...
The male reproductive system is a set of organs that works together to produce sperm which will later in life fertilize females eggs. The testes are the most important part of the system because it produces sperm cells. It is similar and looks similar to ovaries of a female’s reproductive system because it also holds what they need to reproduce. Its job is to produce the sperm cells needed to reproduce. Due to hormonal imbalances the production of sperm cells may not even be possible in some males. Testosterone is the male the hormone that gives men there manly characteristics. It is made up of hydrogen, carbon, and oxygen with a white color. In the male body it helps develop sex organs, a deeper voice, and facial hair (Khalid, 2013). Cancer or a genetic disorder in males is the most common thing that cause the reductions of testosterone production in the body. Behind the testes is the epididymis which lets sperm go through the vas deferens from the testes (Dictionary, 2014). It looks like leach the way it is position right on the testes but it is thinner. When sperm is produces the ...
The female reproductive systems is made of 9 parts. The sex cell for the female reproductive system is called the egg or ovum. The egg spends it’s dormant life in the ovaries until it is released. The egg has 23 chromosomes within it. The ovaries have two goals: to create and house eggs and the release the female sex hormones, estrogen and progesterone. The fallopian tubes are what the egg travels through to reach the uterus. Fallopian tubes contain tiny hair-like structures called cilia; the cilia allows for mobility of the egg. The fallopian tube is roughly the size of 2 hairs, and is the site of where ectopic pregnancies happen. The process of the egg getting released from the ovaries through the fallopian tubes is called ovulation. Ovulation happens on the 14th day of the menstruation cycle The uterus is where the egg goes to after it travels through the fallopian tubes. The developing baby is held and nourished in the uterus. When the uterus is empty, it’s roughly the size of a fist but expands one an embryo starts to develop. The endometrium is the lining of the uterine wall. It’s used to protect the fetus. When the egg isn’t fertilized, menstruation ha...
...t difference between a dog and a cat is the training involved. If you want to get a dog you better be prepared to train the dog a lot and you need to have patience with the dog. Dogs learn things slower than cats but dogs also go through more training then cats do. After doing research on both of these animals, I believe that a dog is a better pet because it becomes a part of the family a lot of then a cat does.
In conclusion, there are various similarities and differences that dogs and cats hold to one other. This compare and contrast between the two animals is perceived in different ways. Some may think more highly of cats due to their intelligence, while others will choose a dog any day because of their companionship attributes. It primarily relies on the personality and desires of a
