Throughout the film Wag The Dog, Bitzer’s three concepts of exigence, audience, and constraints are all unmistakably used. The first concept of the three, exigence means imperfection marked by urgency. The first scene that is an example of exigence in the film would be the sex scandal that went on between the president and a girl in her teens, only 2 weeks before the Presidential Election. This is a wonderful example of exigence because the imperfection is that the president is being blamed for participating in sexual activity with an underage girl and the urgency is that this happened only 11 days before he is up for his reelection term. The political team including a famous producer in Hollywood named Stanley, and a spin-doctor named Conrad worked together and made the imperfection disappear. Conrad distracted the voting public from the sex scandal by hiring the famous producer from to put together a fake war with Albania. Constructing the fake war was intended to distract the public but ended up leading to even more problems and another scene involving exigence in the film. The scene was when the president decided to create an imitation war scene for the media. The issue arose when the actress that was hired to participate in the scene decided to put it down as an acting job on her resume. This was an issue because by putting the acting job on her resume, it would become public knowledge that this was a fake war scene and it would ruin the whole project. This would definitely put the president in a bad light and in turn make him be portrayed in an even worse way than he was to begin with. The second of the three concepts is audience. Audience has the most power out of the three concepts because the audience determines if the ... ... middle of paper ... ...festival going on in Albania and it is known to be an honor for the person who gets the first sheaf of wheat from the harvest. When the Albanian girl offered the gift it was displayed on news stations around the world. Another way that pathos was used in this film was when the war hero Old Shoe died unexpectedly and he then was given the highest honors in the military. Also a huge funeral production was made in his honor with the intent that it would be shown on the news. The public ate this up and enjoyed seeing the funeral because no one wants to see a war hero die. In general, death is a great way to stir up emotion in people because it reminds people of their fears. Death sparks the fear that you will never see that person again and also the fear of dying one day as well. Death is a known reality that everyone has to face but most people avoid talking about.
A joyous celebration of the sanctity of life is generated through the element of Mood and atmosphere. The clip begins with a soft orchestration of piano and violin, creating a magical melody. The choice of melody creates the mood and atmosphere that influences the audience to feel joyous from the outset. The use of lighting adds dramatic effect to the mood and atmosphere of this scene; a warm yellow beam of light streams out of the barn, cutting through the dark and rainy morning, which
Throughout the novel death is portrayed as normal, something not too worry about. An example of this is shown when the director takes the students through the facility, “Bernard, whispering, made an appointment with the Headmistress for that very evening, ‘from the Slough Crematorium. Death conditioning begins at eighteen months. Every tot spends two mornings a week in a Hospital for the Dying. All the best toys are kept there, and they get chocolate cream on death days. They learn to take dying as a matter of course’”(109). The portray death to children as relaxing and fun so they do not fear or get sad about deaths of a loved one. Another example of this is shown when the director talks about how everyone dies when they are sixty. The world state does this because when the are sixty they do not want to work or play their expensive games. During their life the always look you, they are fit, and healthy. The people in the world state see not having too grow old as a luxury. They see the elderly as gross, fat, disgusting creatures with growths and blemishes. Both of these views are highly contrasted with what the concepts of love and marriage are like in the world today. People view death as a new beginning. We believe that when we die our spirits go on into either heaven or hell based on our actions. This makes us strive to do good in the world so we would be compensated for our actions. Another example is that People view old age. As children we are taught to love and respect the elderly because the give the next generation values and morals to help guide their lives. We all honor the elderly with medical assistance and holidays made to celebrate
“Dead Man Walking” is an extremely emotional thought-provoking film. From the emotional impacts of death to the physical repercussions; the viewer is made to feel many emotions throughout the duration of the movie. Strong acting, music, and camera techniques give the viewer each side of the story, emotionally and visually. This movie is shown from all sides and each side can relate to certain scenes. The debate over whether the death penalty is morally right will never be an easy one.
After examining “The Most Dangerous Game,” and “The Interlopers,” it is apparent that adding a death scene into a story helps to convey the story’s whole meaning.
...ns that when these characters die in the film we feel a heavier and more personal sense of loss when they perish. This is a direct attempt to make the viewer understand the personal nature of the violent manner through which Shoshanna lost her parents early in the film. This is an attempt to get viewers see through the Jewish lens of violence in World War II instead of the glorified violence of major battles that composes the American lens.
The Tale itself is a relatively simplistic moral fable that hinges on the distinctions between literal and figurative language. The initial personification of death that the young child uses as a metaphor and euphemism leads to the actual physical manifestation of Death as a tangible object: the piles of gold that the three rioters find. The plot of the tale derives from the rioters' literal interpretation of euphemism since death has taken their friend, they must find death. This personification of death finally becomes metaphor once again when the piles of gold represent the death that they find.
Literature according to our textbook is one form of media that is an expression of attitude toward death. Literature gives us the meaning of death as it relates to society and individuals. (Lynne Ann DeSpelder, pg. 17) Novels about war depict how individuals and societies search for meaning in shattering experiences of trauma and loss. In order to concur with our textbook and the media that was chosen, Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare came to mind. Romeo and Juliet is the ultimate love story but also shows love in a violent way. Romeo and Juliet go against the society of their families. The lovers decided that it was better to be dead together than to be alive and apart. This type of love has been glorified to be romantic and shows strength.
People say the mind is a very complex thing. The mind gives people different interpretations of events and situations. A person state of mind can lead to a death of another person. As we all know death is all around us in movies, plays, and stories. The best stories that survive throughout time involve death in one form or another. For example, William Shakespeare is considered as one of the greatest writers in literary history known for having written a lot of stories concerning death like Macbeth or Julius Caesar. The topic of death in stories keeps people intrigued and on the edge of their seats. Edgar Allan Poe wrote two compelling stories that deal with death “The Tell-Tale Heart” and “The Raven.” In “The
“Everyman” is a metaphorical story that shows the value of life and death. In the play Everyman, death is exemplified and treated as a messenger of God that goes to visit Everyman. Everyman is a character that represents human and everything that human have to go through in life until the Day of Judgment. The author of the play uses Death as a character to portray a real truth that all human will have to face. The word "death" attracts people's attention because it is a strong word. Death strikes a fear in people’s heart and it is a truth of life that every human will have to face it one day. The author knows the effects of death and he uses it in the play as a character to attract the reader. A character Death is used as an allegorical picture of physical death and is under God's control. Death is sent to Earth by God to judge Everyman. The story is shown as life lessons for others in the path they have chosen in their lives.
Death is an unstoppable event that occurs in every individual’s life, and yet it is a very taboo topic as people rarely broach the subject because it causes incredible distress; it is certainly not a comical topic of conversation and one that is very seldom and rarely congratulated. Yet Oscar Wilde manages to deliver the ever present looming topic of death as if it held the same gravity as a bad hairdo in his comedic play, The Importance of Being Earnest. Instead of expressing support, sorrow and sympathy for the victims of Death and for the relatives, Wilde treats Death in comparison to a result of an impromptu action; no more serious than if a person was to walk into another, due to lack of observation in where they were going; The Importance of
... The concept of death is commonly associated with negative feelings, sadness and grief. The fear of death consumes many victims. No one can control when or where death will come for them. However, if the fear of death takes precedence over the joy of life, then the experiences life has to offer will be missed. Life and death should not be viewed as opposing forces, but rather as an opportunity to enjoy playing the game of life, just as Nat did while playing a game of gin rummy when confronted by Death. The prominent focus of Woody Allen’s play Death Knocks is to combat the fear of death with humor and to relieve the anxiety associated with this inevitable life event.
events/figures into the plot of this play to remind audiences that a death has transpired.
Prepare yourself to be overtaken by emotions as varied as joy, pity, happiness, anger, revulsion, surprise, and an exhilarating conclusion rarely seen in movies anymore. This film has made me grateful to be alive and that we still have people in cinema like Danny Boyle who understands the power and beauty of the medium. He knows that the perfect mix of a great story and the respective imagery can provoke unforgettable memories in its audience.
Before we depict our characters, let’s look into symbolism. Symbolism plays a major role throughout the story. Death is everywhere. It is in the names, the people and the environment. Like the picture of Romeo and Juliet. Everyone knows the story of them but how does it connect
Whenever there is a story that involves a graveyard, it almost a foregone conclusion that death will factor heavily into the plot of the story. It is no different with this poem. According to Aviya Kushner in an essay for Poetry for Students, “while the other themes are more significant to the overall moral of the story, the theme of death is prevalent in every other facet of the story.” Kushner is absolutely correct in her thoughts here and we should take note of what she says. The other themes are undoubtedly more important than the theme of death, but to ignore the theme of death is to ignore the story entirely. As you can see, the theme of death is present from the beginning to the end of the story, but it is perhaps one of the less meaningful themes that is presented in the Elegy Written in a Country
