Weirdo. Loser. Stupid. Delinquent. Those are only some of the names that Meg and her hometown would call her in the novel A Wrinkle In Time. The things that made her heroic was her stubbornness, saving Charles Wallace, and changing from relying on everyone to being the one who saves them. The protagonists, or the main character, Meg is very stubborn and does not listen to other people, this helped save Charles
Wallace because she changed from always needing to hold someone’s hand to saving her brother from IT. In the novel, Meg goes through a series of changes in her life that she must learn how to overcome. She saved her brother by loving him. “‘ I love you!’ she cried. ‘I love you, Charles! I love you!’” ( p.200) This moment made her heroic because she was being brave but she also did all the steps in a Hero’s Journey, she got the call to adventure rejected it at first but then ended up saving her brother. She went through the abyss when she was frozen and couldn’t move. Her mentors or the three Mrs. W’s could not go with her to Camazotz and help her save her father and their planet. Her helpers were Calvin, her father, Charles, Aunt Beast etc. Meg would not have been able to save everyone if she just stayed the insecure, or always depend on others to do things for her she would have never accomplished what she did. Finally, Meg only became a heroic figure by changing throughout the adventure, she used to rely on everyone to do things for her but now she’s the one who’s saving others. In the beginning of the story she was always doubting herself and thinking she could never do anything on her own and that she was stupid, but as the story progressed she realized she could do a lot more than she thought she could.
