The Rape of Nanking
One thing that history does is turn you into a doubter. Regardless of what period of history you study, you’re eventually going to come across a time of some pretty evil and nasty acts by humans against each other. Even till now the present day, massacre appears to be one of human beings favorite doings. On December 13 1937, in the book the Rape of Nanking, by Iris Chang, she states many reasons to why people are filled with good and bad natures in times like this.
Because just by looking at them, there past of unhappiness and a dark time will haunt them. "Before Leaving, the soldiers murdered the landlords two children, aged four and two; they bayoneted the older Child and split the bead of the younger one with a sword (Pg. 92)." Chinese children were helpless, once in the hands of Japanese soldiers there was little hope. The rape of these women is the most horrific pan about what was going on in Nanking. Young Women, ages from live and older would be victims of rape by Japanese soldiers. Women that were Victims of rape would end up to be sex slaves to please the needs of Japanese soldiers whenever they wanted. On page 92 Chang tells a story of Mrs. Hsia. A Chinese wife of a tenant. “The Japanese then tagged Mrs. Hsia from under a table in the guest hall where she had tried to hide with her one-year old baby. They stripped her. Raped her. Then bayoneted her in the chest when they were finished." It was like-Lier life had no meaning to Japanese soldiers. They had no respect for women. Hey raped her and killed her. She had known chance of survival. "... at least one girl was raped two or three times a day. Eventually she became so diseased the Japanese left her alone (Pg. 93)."" ...

Nanking is evil and it will always be evil because of those Japanese soldiers who made a choice to stand for a greater cause but changed their view because of what their cultural belief was based on. For the people of china they suffered from both kinds of rape: Rape mentally because they would live in depression and fear of Japan. Physical because of the killings and rapes that Chinese men, women and children endured during the six-week killing spree. Japan carries not only the legal burden but the moral obligation to acknowledge the evil in perpetrated at Nanking.

The tragic event occurred because Japanese soldiers were taught that the Chinese people were inferior and a lesser people. The soldiers had learned this from the bushido code. Originally, the bushido code was for Japan’s samurai class to guide them to chivalry and honor. The code was modified so that it, “emphasized fanatical devotion to the state, aggression, lack of concern for self, disdain for Japan’s enemies, and the glory inherent in fighting and dying for the Japanese emperor” (The Rape of Nanking). This new modification discarded the codes of chivalry and compassion. Th...
The article provides background information which helps to explain how the Japanese soldiers were able to commit such atrocious attacks on Chinese citizens with seemingly little or no remorse. From a young age, Japanese children had a hatred for the Chinese engrained into them through propaganda by their teachers, textbooks, and even through the toys ...

...everal times since the Holocaust, and the previous three are a few of the worst. These tragedies that occur throughout history are caused purely by fellow human beings, and it is up to human beings to stop them. As Jack Schwartz says, “Genocide is an attempt to exterminate a people, not alter their behavior.” It is the responsibility of not one, but all. The world needs to make these crimes against civilization come to a halt, once and for all.
While the direct job, has rules against the Bunnies and their customers having a relationship these rules are not regulated correctly. After all, Steinem actually remarks about a Bunny that was fired for turning down a customer on a date. While inside the business, the Bunnies are constantly harassed about coming to meet their customers in hotel rooms and about their appearance. The prostitution does not end once their shift ends though, while walking home one evening exhausted and belittled, a taxi driver waves $4 around as if a Bunny should sell herself to him. When Steinem shakes her head in disbelief at his behavior, he actually remarks, “You work here don’t you”, as if it is expected of the Bunnies to be open to
Rape Culture Many of the attitudes, beliefs, and mistaken ideas about rape have been with us for centuries. By looking at myths, such as “women ask for it,” and “it would do some women good to get raped,” from a historical perspective, leads us to better understanding how they evolved. Women are still seen as the property of men, and are protected as such. Men and women are still taught to occupy very different roles in today’s world.

When 1937 arrived, Japanese soldiers raided China’s capital of Nanking and began mass murdering citizens. The sole leader of the Japanese Imperial Army was non-existent. There were many people in power, such as generals, who allowed these behaviors to occur. Baron Koki Hirota, foreign minister at the time, proceeded to do nothing while being well aware of the Japanese’s persecution of the Chinese. These unsympathetic murders of those who were thought to be Chinese soldiers as well as women, children and the elderly.

Traditional or common knowledge views of rape portray the act as something a crazy stranger commits on another stranger. However, this is simply not the case. The vast majority of rapes, sometimes up to 70%, involve a victim who was previously known to the offender (Woods and Porter 2008). The data does not totally support this view, however. This is because only an estimated 18% of acquaintance rape is reported to the police (Woods and Porter 2008). For comparative purposes, an estimated 79% of stranger rape is reported. Research suggests that each type of forcible rape has a more frequent setting (Woods and Porter 2008). When a rape happens indoors, the victim is more likely to have had a close personal relationship with the offender (Woods and Porter 2008). In fact, the rape usually occurs in either the offender’s or victim’s home (Woods and Porter 2008). The National Institute of Justice reports that women are raped dramatically more than men are; 18% of women report being raped at least once in their life, in contrast to just the 3% of men who report being raped in their lifetime (Tjaden and Thoennes 2006). Of minority groups, 34% of American-Indian women report being raped in their lifetime, the highest percentage of any group; the lowest percentage is Pacific Islander women, of whom only 7% report being raped in their lifetime (Tjaden and Thoennes 2006). The data suggests that rape occurs at an early age. Nearly a quarter of female rape victims and nearly one half of male rape victims were younger than 12 years old when first raped (Tjaden and Thoennes 2006). The percent of victims first raped when younger than 18 years of age is nearly three quarters for men and over half for women (Tjaden and Thoennes 2006). “Women who w...
The Japanese leaders had different methods of killing that were instructed to the soldiers. However, the prisoners of this “City of Blood” soon found their liberation and their justice was served. The Japanese saw China as the place to spread their imperial and expansionist objectives. A rough estimate of 300,000 Chinese men and women died in the six weeks after December 13, 1937 (Jones). Around 20,000 women from ages 8 to 70 were raped by Japanese soldiers (Scarred).
Although she got pregnant by someone other than her husband they did not look at the good and joyful moments the child could bring. Having a baby can be stressful, especially being that the village was not doing so great. The baby could have brought guilt, anger, depression, and loneliness to the aunt, family, and village lifestyle because having a baby from someone other than your husband was a disgrace to the village, based on the orientalism of women. Society expected the women to do certain things in the village and to behave a particular way. The author suggests that if her aunt got raped and the rapist was not different from her husband by exploiting "The other man was not, after all, much different from her husband. They both gave orders; she followed. ‘If you tell your family, I 'll beat you. I 'll kill you. Be, here again, next week." In her first version of the story, she says her aunt was a rape victim because "women in the old China did not choose with who they had sex with." She vilifies not only the rapist but all the village men because, she asserts, they victimized women as a rule. The Chinese culture erred the aunt because of her keeping silent, but her fear had to constant and inescapable. This made matters worse because the village was very small and the rapist could have been someone who the aunt dealt with on a daily basis. Maxine suggests that "he may have been a vendor
