When a person is put in a tough situation and they have to deal with it, you will get to see who that person really is by the way they handle the situation.
We all know what pride is and what it looks like. Pride makes you act differently towards people whether you meant to be that way or not.
In the beginning of the play, we see King Lear give us the perfect example of being prideful. His actions showed his true colors, but it came back to bite him in the end.
Lear comes in and demands his daughter to shower him with love and affection. Whoever showered him with the most love got the biggest piece of land. Unfortunately, since Lear was so caught up in the love fest he couldn’t see what his two daughters were planning. He was blinded by his pride because he loved the worship he was getting from them. Lear showed what he really loved and that was worship from others.
Have you ever heard the expression “kill ‘em with kindness”? To me this means, no matter how much someone has hurt or disappointed you always be kind to them.
Cordelia gives a great example of this phrase in action. In the beginning, she’s banished for being honest with her father. Lear doesn’t take her honesty well when she gave her response to his demand. Then towards the end, we see that Lear gets into some trouble and goes to her for help. You’d think she’d turn him away the way he did to her, but she doesn’t, instead she takes him in and looks after him. Due to Cordelia’s actions, we can see that she truly is a kind person, and that she loves her father.

Edmund changed his character to a better man because reality hit him; when you realize that you gained nothing being a bad person you start to second guess yourself, like Edmund.
Cordelia is the one character that stayed her throughout the entire play. She was an example of kindness, love, and forgiveness. She never acted out of hate or anger because she knew there were always consequents to being evil. Even when her father banished her Cordelia continued to love and care for him.
A person's true colors will come out eventually and you'll realize who they really are when they are put in a tough situation. When you see the way they handle this situation, you will also get to see who this person really is.
The play of "King Lear" is about a search for personal identity. In the historical period in which this play is set, the social structure was set in order of things closest to Heaven. Therefore, on Earth, the king was at the top, followed by his noblemen and going all the way down to the basest of objects such as rocks and dirt. This structure was set up by the people, and by going by the premise that anything that is man made is imperfect, this system cannot exist for long without conflict.

The story told of a king named Lear who had three daughters named Goneril, Regan, and Cordelia. Lear had given his two oldest daughters Goneril, and Regan a piece of land even though they had lied to their father telling him feelings that they didn’t really have. King Lear wants so badly to hear professions of love that he is unable to differentiate between honesty and dishonesty. It is said that what we value can be determined only by what we sacrifice. In the play “King Lear”, multiple characters sacrificed things that were important to them. A character that sacrificed a lot in the play was Edgar because he basically gave up his entire life, and that shows his values as a person.
King Lear is a perfect demonstration of the great consequences one man's actions can cause. While there are certainly religious Christian elements to the story, the story is not one of morality or hope. King Lear is a lesson, making an example of what can come of a single, foolish, egotistical action. King Lear's action is the surrendering of his throne to his daughters.
When we say pride and self-respect have a fine line of differentiation then I mean, if pride is honorable, then it is not pride but self-respect. It does not ruin the person, if stays within the ego. If pride exits without the feeling of superiority or if pride allows respect towards the other person’s self respect then pride is allowing the person to be open to new things. Therefore pride is not pride actually but it is self-respect.

What exactly was Cordelia's role in the play? Was she there as an angel - like character who made the distinction between good and evil more visible? Was she just thrown in as a little goody- goody who did no wrong, and maybe, to some degree, we were supposed to despise? Or was she there to make us more aware of a crumbling society where many things were opposite to what one might think it should be, with evil generally prevailing over the good (which to some degree is prophetic to today's society)? There are many theories surrounding this character in particular, and no one has reached a definitive conclusion as of late. The best one I can come up with, however, is simply the answer "Yes," to all of the above.
King Lear was a tragic hero that was born into nobility, endowed with a tragic flaw and doomed to make a serious error in judgement. King Lear was born into nobility. "He owned vast amounts of land and ruled over many people. Give me the map there. know that we have divided In three our Kingdom." Not only was King Lear born into nobility he was responsible for his own fate. He disowned his daughter Cordelia and made his other two daughters rulers of his land once divided into three now divided into two. His two daughters really did not love him they just wanted the land and power. They turned against their father and had him sentenced to death by Edmund. Lear's death was his own fault. This reason came about because of King Lear's tragic flaw, his pride. Pride is also his reason of how he is a tragic hero. "Tell me, my daughters,-- Since now we will divest us both of rule, Interest of territory, cares of state,-- Which of you shall we say doth love us most, That we our largest bounty may extend Where nature doth with merit challenge?" King Lear was egotistic in the first act where he asked his daughters who loved him most. When he found out his favorite daughter Cordelia did not have much to say about his love for him he disowned her and divided his land to his two evil daughters Regan and Goneril, "From whom we do exist, and cease to be; Here I disclaim all my paternal care, Propinquity and property of blood, And as a stranger to my heart and me Hold thee, from this, for ever." This was also the error in King Lear's judgement.
