When a person is put in a tough situation and they have to deal with it, you will get to see who that person really is by the way they handle the situation.
We all know what pride is and what it looks like. Pride makes you act differently towards people whether you meant to be that way or not.
In the beginning of the play, we see King Lear give us the perfect example of being prideful. His actions showed his true colors, but it came back to bite him in the end.
Lear comes in and demands his daughter to shower him with love and affection. Whoever showered him with the most love got the biggest piece of land. Unfortunately, since Lear was so caught up in the love fest he couldn’t see what his two daughters were planning. He was blinded by his pride because he loved the worship he was getting from them. Lear showed what he really loved and that was worship from others.
Have you ever heard the expression “kill ‘em with kindness”? To me this means, no matter how much someone has hurt or disappointed you always be kind to them.
Cordelia gives a great example of this phrase in action. In the beginning, she’s banished for being honest with her father. Lear doesn’t take her honesty well when she gave her response to his demand. Then towards the end, we see that Lear gets into some trouble and goes to her for help. You’d think she’d turn him away the way he did to her, but she doesn’t, instead she takes him in and looks after him. Due to Cordelia’s actions, we can see that she truly is a kind person, and that she loves her father.

...ne of them. In the beginning he is a liar and not trust worthy. Edmund played everybody to gain power, but when he realizes that he has nothing he changes. Edmund changed his character to a better man because reality hit him; when you realize that you gained nothing being a bad person you start to second guess yourself, like Edmund.
Cordelia is the one character that stayed her throughout the entire play. She was an example of kindness, love, and forgiveness. She never acted out of hate or anger because she knew there were always consequents to being evil. Even when her father banished her Cordelia continued to love and care for him.
A person's true colors will come out eventually and you'll realize who they really are when they are put in a tough situation. When you see the way they handle this situation, you will also get to see who this person really is.
