Writing Assignment Tamara Allison PSYC 1100 500 Abstract The two concepts I chose are integrity and the Big Five Taxonomy. I decided on integrity because I had confused its meaning with benevolence, so I really have chosen three concepts. I also went with the Big Five Taxonomy because I had never heard of it before this chapter and I found it to be very interesting to find my own results. Integrity and benevolence Through the course of the class I have learned that integrity is the quality of personal fairness. It is doing the right thing no matter what, whether people know you’ve done the right thing or not. Integrity also means following through and doing what you say you are going to do. Benevolence is different because it is caring about people and being concerned with others well-being. My lack of understanding lead me to a little extra research on integrity in the workplace. Dr. Ralph James, the author of The Integrity Chain, the book was written for the construction industry but the philosophies apply to any business. Insist on honesty in all dealings since my reputation, and the reputation of my business, are essential to success. I will admit being too honest will not endear you to everyone all the time; however, they will know you are saying what's on your mind rather than being "politically correct."” I’ve learned that going into the workforce, as manager, I would like to make sure that I practice both, integrity by being honest and by leading by example and benevolence by caring about my employees and co-workers. Integrity is important because if you care about doing that right thing and not about who sees it then there will never be the inner struggle of if you are doing the right thing or not.
