Stave 1 - Fear
The main theme in Starve 1 in A Christmas Carol is fear. I choose the word fear, because in this Stave, Scrooge gets greeted by Marley the ghost. Marley was Scrooge's worker, who died 7 year past when he visited Scrooge. Marly want to see Scrooge, because he wanted to save Scrooge from being miserable when he died, for not liking christmas, like Marley was. On page 13, Scrooge noticed that the bells that use to be used for the slaves they had, started ringing out of nowhere. Then, on page 16, the author says “ Scrooge fell upon his knees, and clasped his hands before his face.” Scrooge did this because Marley the ghost let out a loud cry when Scrooge doubted him that he was really there. I choose this word because throughout the stave, Scrooge had envy, when visiting people's houses during Christmas. He realized how poor these people were, but how they worked with what they had to make a feast. Scrooge had a lot of money, and so I think the spirit was trying to show Scrooge how he is in a sense being greedy, and not having a Christmas feast. Throughout this stave, Scrooge goes around and spreads the Christmas cheer. First, he goes and buys the biggest turkey, for Bob Cratchit and his family. Next, as we walks to his nephew's house, he gives money to the carolers, as well as the needy. When he gets to his nephew's house, he apologies for what he had done, and decides to spend Christmas dinner with them. And finally, when Bob Cratchit comes to work that day, Scrooge doubles Bob’s pay, so he can give more to his family. In conclusion, Scrooge surprised everyone with his Christmas cheer, and I think made everyone around him Christmas, a lot
