In the epic poem “Beowulf”, there is a constant vie between good and evil. This epic poem is an aged example of the quote, “There is no denying that there is evil in this world but the light will always conquer the darkness.” (Idowu Koyenikan). The entire poem depicts how if you have faith in God, you will always prevail over evil. Some examples of this theme include:
Beowulf versus Grendel, Beowulf versus Grendel's mother, and Wiglaf versus the dragon.
In the first fight Beowulf comes to Denmark and promises the king Hrothgar to slay the demonic creature, Grendel. Beowulf also says that he will fight with no weapons so the battle is honest. In the poem Beowulf says, “Single handed I’ll settle the strife!” (Beowulf, 330). Beowulf keeps his promise, rips the arm from Grendel and hangs it from the rafters for all to see.
