Dystopia. A society that normally is built on the subject of equality and perfection, but have some sort of underlying problems. We, as human beings, love reading, watching, and writing dystopian pieces. It is easy to fully immerse ourselves in these worlds because of how far away they seem from our reality. However, that isn’t inherently true. Creators use many methods to subtly slide in plot lines in their works that mirror issues in our world. Each type of creator does in different and unique ways. Authors do this by combining interesting characters, diction, and imagery. Filmmakers have to use camera shots, music, shadows, lighting, and angles. In Fahrenheit 451 Guy Montag shows how dangerous it is to live in a society where knowledge is They never take their time or leaving space for love ones. Montag’s wife Mildred seems to be the manifestation of this ideology in the book. She rarely talks to or notices Montag despite them being married. She does not question the rules or ask questions at all. Her only true purpose is to act as a foil for Clarisse. Clarisse represents everything that Montag and this society is missing, ignoring, or trying to suppress. She causes a huge change in Guy’s way of thinking. He finds himself drawn to her. Even from the very first moments that they meet he notices that there is something different about her. This is evident when he describes her for in the beginning. “....and in it a kind of gentle hunger that touched over everything with their tireless curiosity”(Bradbury 3). Bradbury contrast this when he has Montag describe his wife. When he is thinking about her features he uses words like “tomb”, “steel”, “cold”, “screamed”, “dull”, and “featureless”. Ray Bradbury makes this comparison between Clarisse and Mildred multiple times. It’s obvious that we are supposed to infer that Mildred and Clarisse are two different sides of Montag. One represents the dull and colorlessness of his past and the other the bright insightful future waiting for
