When most people hear the word courageous they think of someone who is not halted by danger or pain, they are often thought of as brave. Bravery is often thought of as a trait that we all wish we had, it’s when you let nothing and no one stop you. Beowulf shows courage and bravery by fighting with his bare hands, never backing down from a fight, and always fighting for his life. As said above, when Beowulf had to fight Grendel, he fought using only his bare hands. Beowulf had so much confidence, and so much bravery that he believed he could fight with his hands alone. Through out the battle, Grendel started to notice how strong and powerful Beowulf really was. In the story it refers to Grendel as “writhing”, that really speaks to the audience and makes them aware of the superhuman strength that Beowulf possessed. …show more content…

Beowulf knew that she would eventually come for him because of what he had done to her son, so Beowulf got himself as ready as anyone could get themselves when they have an angry Seawitch coming after them. In the book it says, “For the first time in years of being worn to war with his helmet would earn no glory; it was the last time anyone would wear it.”(455) This really spoke to me and made me see that no matter how strong Beowulf was, he still has his fears. He never failed to overcome them. The fight began and Beowulf really had to step up his game and give this fight all he had because he knew that she was coming to him for revenge. Even when she was coming at him with her giant sword, Beowulf still stood up and had the courage and bravery to fight her
