Welcome to all those in attendance today: Our world is suffering from many tragedies. The biggest of which is genocide. Approximately nineteen million, seven hundred ten thousand, two hundred people have died in numerous genocides across the world since 1933. And yet, many civilians don’t realize that genocide is still occurring today. It has been addressed many times, but it must be said once more: This mass murder of men, women, children, innocence, and faith is not behind us. It's hard to fathom the sheer number of innocent people that have died from genocide. Countless people across the world are still being slaughtered for their race, religion, and even for living in a place that someone else wants to control.

We have all heard of the Holocaust. We have all heard of the eleven million who died. We have all heard of Hitler. We have all heard from countless people who suffered through this atrocity. And yet, we still suffer from the effects of this terrible issue. And why? Because we are scared to think that something like that could happen to us. We are terrified to see what people are capable of. We don’t want to think about it. We stand idly by while thousands and maybe even millions die every day from genocide. They are standing up for their people. But they shouldn’t be the only ones. You don’t need to suffer through an atrocity to help fight against it. So let’s fight. Let’s never forget. Never forget those that fought bravely until their last breath. Never forget those who endured unimaginable pain and suffering. And never forget that we can do something to help, no matter how small. We can all become advocates for human rights. We can stand up, sound the alarm, and demand for action. The creed of Granger High school is a reflection of what we must do: Stand up. Stand strong.
