Before there were humans and animals, there were giants. They were the sons and daughters of the sky spirits. The giants used to live in the sky with the sky spirits, but the giants dishonored the sky spirits, so the sky spirits punished them to live on the Earth and wonder their whole lives, so most of them were evil out of anger and hated the Earth. But a few were good and wanted the Earth to flourish and grow so life might be better. There was only soil on the Earth, so the good giants dug. They dug with their hands for days and found nothing. Human worked day in and day out, building and exploring in the trees. The evil giants noticed the trees moving one day and discovered Human, this made them angry. Human was not like them, he was small and puny. The evil giants took him out of the trees and were about to rip him to shreds, but then the sky opened up and the sky spirits interveined. They said, “You will not harm this being, he is special and has a purpose.”. The evil giants then put him back into the tree and migrated to the farlands forever sleeping in solitude. From that point on, Human ventured on a quest to find more of his kind. He descended down the tree until he reached the soil, then he dug. He dug until he was very old, he had lived under the earth for years, not seeing the daylight or his kind giant friends. He fell asleep while resting one day when he was awaked by a mole. the mole asked him, “What are you, and why do you trespass here?”. Human replied and said, “ I’m searching for more like me.” the mole looked at him and said, I’ve seen none like you before.. but i have seen worms that have skin similar to yours. Human’s eyes lit up and he replied, “Yes! Where are they?!”, then mole took him to the worms.
At the beginning of time only the Gods where living, until one day Sovereign Plumed Serpent and Heart of the Sky, named Hurricane, created trees, bushes, and life. Bearer Begetter was the creator or animals big and small, like birds, deers, jaguars, pumas, and serpents. When the Gods created animals they created them for the sole purpose of being worshiped by them. However, when they realized that the animals could not speak they decided they would be sent to live in the woods and fend for themselves. After this Xpiyacoc and Xmucane attempted to make humans, but instead of not being able to speak. They appeared to be too unnatural and decided to call them manikins or wood carvings so, Heart of the Sky creates a flood killing them off. It is believed that monkeys look like humans because they are the manikins who survived the flood by climbing onto trees.

Throughout history man has had to struggle with the problem of evil. It is one of the greatest problems of the world. Unquestionably, there is no greater challenge to man’s faith then the existence of evil and a suffering world. The problem can be stated simply: If God is an all-knowing and all-loving God, how can He allow evil? If God is so good, how can He allow such bad things to happen?Why does He allow bad things to happen to good people? These are fundamental questions that many Christians and non-Christians set out to answer.
The Cherokee tribe has an interesting creation story. In “Native American Legends” animals came first, already living in the sky. They became curious with what was below and began to discover water and land. With in no specific series of events the Earth was formed. With the wings of a buzzard the mountains and valleys were formed. The animals also called for the sun because of the darkness. They lived in a world above earth and decided to occupy this new world.1
One day Bigochiddy decided that we would return to the Lukatso, and found the people very excited. He told them that he had met many people above and that the world was good. The creation story teaches about different animals such as the loon who catches its food by diving underwater yet floated to the top weak and nearly unconscious, the hell diver who tried but also failed, suddenly the little muskrat came forward and accomplished what they all failed. This helps us understand the text’s social role and importance as the legend teaches about courage of all the animals to volunteer; bravery displayed by the muskrat as he disregards the more powerful and bigger animals as they taunted him, yet he strived to prove to them that he can do it. Ultimately muskrat resurfaces very weak from air and a few minutes later his spirit passed on to the spirit world; in his paw was a smallball of earth. “…And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” (Matthew 6:9-13) As it says in the Bible, we wish to be led astray from evil. However, evil is a very curious subject. For most intensive purposes, evil can be described as cruel, heinous, and unnecessary punishment. Evil is a relatively accepted concept in the world today, although it is not completely understood. Evil is supposedly all around us, and at all times. It is more often than not associated with a figure we deem Satan. Satan is said to be a fallen angel, at one point God’s favorite. Supposedly Satan tries to spite God by influencing our choices, and therefore our lives. However, this presents a problem: The Problem of Evil. This argues against the existence of God. Can God and evil coexist?

Genesis reads that “In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth,” then “God’s spirit was hovering over the surface of the waters.” Another characteristic is how, after the water, came land. How the World Was Made, describes how the “soft mud,” from under the water “began to grow and to spread out on every side until it became the island we call the earth.” In The Sky Tree, the soil was “placed...until they made an island of great size.” A final similarity, is how after land came animals and how the animals helped to take care of the people on the earth. In How the World Was Made, the world the animals lived in was called Galun’lati. Galun’lati “was very much crowded,” and “the animals wanted more room;” Water Beetle left to find land so that the animals could have more space. While Water Beetle helped find land for the animals, in The Sky Tree a turtle sees a woman falling from the sky after she had jumped after a sacred tree. Turtle told his friends what he had seen and had them “bring up pawfuls of wet soil,” and place it on his back which created a “new earth,” for the woman to “settle gently on.” In Genesis, God created the animals
Imagine walking down an ancient path amidst a forest of tangled and twisted trees, some of which have existed since before a time even great grandparents can remember. The air echoes with sounds of life, and the fragrance is that of cedar or juniper… or something not quite either. The living things that dwell here, bridge a gap in time that many are totally unaware of and for the reasons about to be explained, may never become so. Throughout the world there are various cultures with varying religions and creation stories to explain the creation of the Earth and it’s inhabitants. Of these creation stories two with similar and also different characteristics is the Creation story in the book of Genesis which is a part of the 1st Testament in the Hebrew Bible and explains the creation of Earth and humans, and the Theogony which is the greek creation story that describes the origins of the Earth and the Greek Gods. Both the Theogony and the Creation in Genesis show nature as a blessing for humans but it can also affect them negatively, However the myths differ in the ways that the Earth and humans were created and how humans interact with the deities of the creation stories.
The Problem of Evil is an argument that highlights the contradiction between the existence of evil and the existence of God. The Problem of Evil basically states that if a perfect being like God existed, then existence of evil should not and is impossible to co-exist with, because such an almighty, all-power God would not allow it to. It is apparent to some people that the existence of evil and suffering itself in our world is the biggest challenge against the belief in the perfect being, higher power, known as God. I believe the Problem of Evil is the best and justifiable argument against the existence of God, because if God was truly all-powerful and omnipotent then he would not allow there to be any evil or suffering. Every day God created something new and blesses it. God created nothing irrelevant or unworthy. Entirely everything he created served a purpose. Also all he had created came from nothing. The fish were undeniably produced out of the waters, and the beasts and man out of the earth; but that earth and those waters were made out of nothing. God created what is known as the world today and everything that exists on the earth. Reading Genesis 1 gives all mankind an idea of how life started and how the earth was formed to be this magnificent place. The earth is very complicated yet God could solve all of the problems and create blessings. He gave us light and darkness, day and night, water and land. He created all living creature including mankind.
